Wow! If what eWeek says is true, we sure will get a lot of developer mindshare. There has been a lot of debate on this topic in opensolaris discussion groups. But,  I am really excited about the prospects of such a decision.

I like the sound of OpenSolaris preconfigured application stacks. That's one of the nice things about Ubuntu server - it runs as a preconfigured LAMP server. It would be great to see an Apache/MySQL/PHP stack come ready-to-run on OpenSolaris too - I guess you'd call it SAMP?

On a separate note, I believe OpenSolaris could benefit from most Linux drivers by adopting GPL3 - since a lot of Linux code doesn't require version 2 of the GPL. Good luck with it all - it's great to see Sun innovating and having fun at the same time!

Yeah, it will rock with GNU userland on OpenSolaris. Then I would be totally agnostic on whether the servers I administer were OpenSolaris or Linux. Fingers crossed.
