Screencast: Connectability Checking in CASA Editor

One nice usability feature in CASA (Composite Application Service Assembly) Editor in NetBeans SOA Pack is that when you select an endpoint and try to make a connection, all the connectible endpoints, be it WSDL ports, endpoints defined by JBI Modules, or some external endpoints, are highlighted for you.

Have you ever wondered why the non-highlighted endpoints are not connectible? There are several possible reasons, some being obvious (for example, you cannot connect two Consume endpoints), and others not so obvious (for example, the backing WSDL file of the endpoint is not available). 

To check why two endpoints cannot be connected, select one endpoint first, and then start dragging. When mouse hovers over the other (non-highlighted) endpoint, wait for the tooltip to show up. The tooltip explains why the connection cannot be made.

This little-known feature is available since NetBeans 6.0. Here is a little screenshot:
