In Memoriam: Kim Sun-il

This is so sad.

I saw this poor man on TV last night, pleading for his life in a grainy video, dressed in the same sort of orange jumpsuit Nicholas Berg and Paul Johnson had been wearing before they were killed. And when I fired up the laptop tonight, to tell you about something that happened at work today, my home page came up with the headline Militants Decapitate South Korean Hostage in Iraq. My heart broke. Kim was 33 years old, "had a degree in theology as well as Arabic and had hoped to be Christian missionary in the Arab world." That hits so close to home, much closer than I knew last night. Mostly it's the picture of this poor man repeating "I don't want to die" that sticks with me, and the image in my head of his family hoping and praying for a miracle that did not come, just as it did not come for the families of Nicholas Berg and Paul Johnson.

Why is this happening? When will this end?

I'll have to tell you about work some other time.
