Changing BIOS settings on a Toshiba

I have a Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop with Windows XP installed on it and I wanted to create a partition and install the Solaris Express Developer Edition(SXDE). I will write about my partitioning and SXDE installation experiences in another blog entry. The Solaris Express, Developer Edition Installation Guide explains the process. Take a look also,at the  dual-boot partitioning video using QTParted.

To install SXDE you have to change the BIOS settings for the laptop to boot from the CD-ROM. For this particular laptop, the usual F1,F2 keys did not work. I checked Toshiba's PC support site, which lists 3 ways to change the BIOS settings on a machine with Windows XP. The only way I could change the settings was through the Toshiba HW Utility (under Control Panel). This was already installed on my laptop and I changed the Boot Priority to CD-ROM->FDD->HDD->LAN instead of the default HDD->FDD->CD-ROM->LAN setting. If the HW utility is not installed on your machine, you can download it here.
