Takeaways from the SAMP pod at JavaOne

Manning the SAMP pod at JavaOne was an interesting experience. The SAMP pod attracted many visitors, most of whom were genuinely interested about the product . And I got to see the lure of Dtrace first hand. Many developers stopped by exclusively for a demonstration of the interesting dtrace scripts that Angelo Rajadurai had put together for the conference. Check out his blog at http://blogs.sun.com/angelo for links to a Dtrace Webcast, Dtrace hands-on Labs and more.

Here are some questions (and the answers) that I was asked at the pod :

1. Is SAMP supported on SXDE?

Yes. CoolStack 1.1 supports SXDE and Solaris 10. The previous release of CoolStack 1.0.2 supports only Solaris 10.

2. Is SXDE only for x86 systems?

The first release is for x86 platform only. Future releases are expected to support SPARC based systems.

3. What are all the different versions/editions of OSes that you have now?

Read the SXDE product FAQ here.

4. Does SXDE have any developer tools?

Yes, Sun Studio 11, NetBeans IDE 5.5 and NetBeans Enterprise Pack 5.5

3. Is Apache Tomcat included in CoolStack?

Check out the site http://cooltools.sunsource.net/coolstack/index.html to see a complete list of packages that are available for download. The CSKtomcat package includes the Apache Tomcat application.

4. Do you have developer support for SAMP?

Yes. See the Sun Developer Assistance site for details.

If you are using SAMP or SXDE , please give us your feedback which will help us improve and provide a better user experience for everyone.
