About inetmenu

Inetmenu is a network configuration tool available on the OpenSolaris site.The tool scans the available network interfaces and displays the available ones to the user.The user has to be logged in as root to make any changes with this tool. The root user can also add other users to have configuration privileges. Read this blog to see how to accomplish that.

I used inetmenu to to enable wireless connectivity on my laptop. I downloaded the Intel 3945 wireless driver for
Nevada build 63 for my Intel PRO Wireless 3945 ABG card on the Toshiba
laptop.(This driver has been integrated into build 64 and above). Once
your wireless interface has been "plumbed", the interface appears on inetmenu.

$ ifconfig wpi0 plumb

The ifconfig command configures the
network interface parameters. The plumb option "opens the devices
associated with the physical interface name and set up the streams
needed for IP to use the device" (from the man pages).  Read the man
pages for ifconfig online here.

The user then selects ethernet or wireless option and the
configuration to connect to the web. Screenshots of the inetmenu UI are shown below.
