How many of you are using NetBeans on Ubuntu? Are you seeing the blank dialog sometimes with Compiz Fusion?

It's JDK bug and the original bug is bug 6429775, it should have been fixed at Java6u1.
  • 6429775 : Xgl/Compiz/Java 1.5/Swing problem
However it seems that it's still producible even on Java6u3, it's not always but still happens. Daigo Kobayashi, a NetBeans community members in Japan kindly was working through the Java.net forum and asking to file new bug. Here is the newly created bug. Thank you Daigo.

Please vote! I like Java, NetBeans, Ubuntu and Compiz :) Compiz is now running on OpenSoalris!

Btw, the well-known workaround of setting AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit does not help. I'm often seeing the problem that I can not type any character on editor.
Comments:

I also see this problem, if the dialog is not very important, and can be processed by ALT+"SOME KEY", like accept a license, keyboard just working, though mouse not working that way

Thanks prosp4300 for comment. Yes, the second time when the dialog is invoked, it's usually correct. So we can try again to bring the dialog.

I've already reported this as an incident to Sun. They asked me some log which i provided then nothing has happened.
The reason is some threading issue in the X11 implementation. The good thing is that it seems Java 7 does not suffer from this issue. According to the sources they made some "radical" changes there. I hope Sun will backport these changes to Java 6.

Hi Laszlo, it's good news!! I'll try Java 7. Will you add your comments into the bug report? It would help the Sun engineers. Thanks!

I use to experience this until I added Compiz Fusion's repository and updated to the most recent nightly build. After doing this all my blank dialogs and windows had components again, so try that first before filing a bug report. It seems the Compiz Fusion version that is in the Ubuntu repositories is not as current as the their own and Swing bugs are still present in the version they serve up. And to add to my glory more of the Compiz Fusion plugin effects worked properly. I also recommend installing the 'Compiz Fusion Icon' for quick access to compiz settings and the all important on/off toggle switch, as well as the ability to quickly replace metacity or compiz.

Thank you very much Adam for the info. It's also good news!! What is the correct way for getting nightly? I can find only http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Get_Compiz_Fusion.
