SXDE 1/08 installed to SONY VAIO VGN-SZ72B
さて Solaris Express Developer
Edition (SXDE) 1/08
のインストールの練習も終わって実際に使った感じもつかめたので実機にインストールしました。いつものようにVGN-SZ72B/B
- Intel Core 2 Duo
- Intel 945GM Express Chipset
- NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400
- Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
- Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
- SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
インストーラは Solaris Express から起動しました。ディスクを保存しておきたいので新しい GUI インストーラは使わず CLI のものを使いました。これだと開発ツールと Web Stack はインストールされないので Solaris インストール後、別途インストールする必要があります。Marvell Yukon はそのままでは動きませんが Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG は問題なく動くので Marvell Yukon のドライバーをサイトからダウンロードできますね。
まとめると私の場合は手順は毎回このようになります。
Thanks for the info. I want to ask you, what is the best option to input Japanese characters from Solaris Express? How is that method compared to Windows Vista and Mac? Thanks.

Hi Wayne, thank you for the comment. As you may know ATOK for Solaris is bundled in SXDE, which is one of the major and good input method in Japanese market. It's really good. I personally think it's the best input engine for Japanese. When we want to use ATOK on Windows and Mac, we need to buy it separately. But it's bundled in Solaris for free :-)

Wayne, do you prefer English docs? Japanese docs are available on docs.sun.com, but I can not find English ones.
