NetBeans の翻訳プロジェクトで今回 T シャツを作りました。左が表で右側が裏です。さてどれが何語でしょう?日本語、ハングル、漢字はわかりますけどそれ以外はさてさて…実は私もわかりません ^^;

このTシャツは第2弾です。初代のデザインの T シャツは happy_ryo 氏がこの写真のようにかっこよく着てくれていますが、日本語コミュニティでブログ書いてくれている方とか、FAQ の翻訳に参加してくれた方とか、オリジナルコンテンツを提供してくれた方などにお配りしました。この第2弾もみなさんに配れるように現在交渉中です。

I prepared a document about the l10n-kit and localization process for NetBeans Platform and announced it to NetBeans Translatedfiles Community.
If you're interested in localization of NetBeans Platform, please try it. If you're developing RCP based on NetBeans Platform and want to localize it to several languages, you can follow the scenario.

If you know NetBeans 6.0 localization process, you need to understand the new l10n-kit (a set of English files to be localized) first for 6.1. There are two big changes from 6.0.

l10n-kit structure
l10n-kit was created from NetBeans source tree prior to NetBeans 6.1. In 6.1, l10n-kit is created from NetBeans binary and NetBeans NBMs. It means l10n-kit is the same structure of NetBeans installation image. You can find the detail info in NB6.1MLPlan.

Mercurial
NetBeans switched to HG (Mercurial) from cvs at 6.1. Our localized repository is also provided.
We were using the same directory for all languages prior to NetBeans 6.1.
java/source/src/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_de.properties
java/source/src/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_es.properties
java/source/src/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_ja.properties
java/source/src/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_pt_BR.properties
java/source/src/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_zh_CN.properties
Now, in 6.1, we're using a sub-directory per language. The above example is now changed to the following structure.
de/java/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_de.properties
es/java/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_es.properties
ja/java/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_ja.properties
pt_BR/java/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_pt_BR.properties
zh_CN/java/org/netbeans/modules/java/Bundle_zh_CN.properties
Daily development builds for NetBeans 6.1 ml release are now available. You can download and install it in your language. Installer and NetBeans IDE are fully localized. Japanese, Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese are included.
Most UI messages have been localized. We're now working on bugfixing of UI messages and online help, and trying to release these ml version in next month. If you find any issue e.g. wrong translation, please send to local community or translatedfiles community. You can find contacts of local community in the following FAQ.

We finally released NetBeans 6.0.1 multilingual IDE for Japanese, Chinese and  Brazilian Portuguese. The installers are available from the following official download page. Windows, Solaris SPARC&x86, Linux and Mac OS X installers are available.
Congratulations, Michel Graciano and community members of Brazilian Portuguese language in translatedfiles.netbeans.org. Brazilian Portuguese community localized most of UI messages of Platform, Base IDE, Java SE, Mobility and Ruby. Sun was doing the rest of the modules and online help. I understand that we have never localized NetBeans Mobility, Profiler(included in Java SE) and C/C++ into Brazilian Portuguese in NetBeans 5.5, but now all packs have been fully localized into pt_BR!! Ruby and Ruby on Rails are new for 6.0 but these have been also localized.

For other languages in translatedfiles.netbeans.org project, German, Spanish and Polish  community are very active for 6.0 localization and trying to release something soon. Please check the translation status.

If you need a TMX (translation memory) for OmegaT, you can create it by using Java .properties Import 1.3 utility. It requires translated files and corresponding English sources (.properties files) . I had prepared the document how to create it for NetBeans 5.5.
However, it will not work for NetBeans 6.0, because ant prepare target that will gather English sources can not be used in release60 branch. To get English sources for 6.0, you can use the latest l10n-kit. I prepared the another document for 6.0 on translatedfiles.netbeans.org document area.

NetBeans translatedfiles project is now localizing NetBeans 6.0/6.0.1 IDE into several languages. And we will release localized IDE for Japanese, Chinese and Brazilian Portuguese this month.

NetBeans 6.0.1 l10n-kit has been finalized. I prepared 6.0.1 final l10n-kit in wiki.netbeans.org,
When you already started translation by using 6.0 l10n-kit, please generate files again from updated l10n-kit with your current TMX on OmegaT, then integrate them to cvs (release60 branch).

Unfortunately these 3 files have been updated for bugfixing after I refreshed l10n-kit. Please don't forget to add to source folder and translate them.
  • ide/registration/src/org/netbeans/modules/registration/Bundle.properties
  • ide/welcome/src/org/netbeans/modules/welcome/resources/Bundle.properties
  • installer/engine/src/org/netbeans/installer/wizard/components/actions/netbeans/Bundle.properties
Translation status and validation page are now being updated every 2 hours.

French community in NetBeans translatedfiles project has contributed NetBeans Platform translations for NetBeans 6.0. Thank you Nacer for the integration!!

Here is the status page for the translation progress. We're going to release ja, zh_CN and pt_BR 6.0.1 next month. Community completed NetBeans Platform translations for de, es, fr, pl and sq. It's great!

I updated my script for validation pages on http://translatedfiles.netbeans.org/6.0/validation.html.

1. Provide links to browse source codes of cvs, release60 branch for both English and localized one so that community members can browse the contents of the target files.

apisupport/project/src/org/netbeans/modules/apisupport/project/ui/

2. Ignore missing keys in localized file if the key is marked as NOI18N

  • Info: Key/value pair <beans-binding=Beans Binding> doesn't exist in localized file, but its defined as NOI18N, please IGNORE

To avoid over-translation, we need to keep these NOI18N strings in English but I understand it's not easy to revert back to English after translation is completed. The quick solution is to comment out these keys in localized properties files so that English strings will be picked up instead. The prev version of script just reported these missing keys as ERROR.

I started to provide daily zip file for NetBeans 6.0 community language build. The location is file area of translatedfiles.netbeans.org
It includes pt_BR,bg,de,es,fr,pl,sq and tr. Please check the status page for progress of translations in each language.
You can use zip file with your installation of NetBeans:
  1. Install NetBeans 6.0
  2. Unzip the zip file into the installation directory
  3. Start NetBeans 6.0
NetBeans 6.0 will follow the language of your desktop. If you're using different language, try to use --locale option like
% netbeans --locale pt:BR
Here is the screenshot for German and pt_BR.

release60 branch has been created for NetBeans 6.0 release and we translatedfiles project also need to switch to the branch for integration.

I updated my scripts to generate status and validation pages. These pages are being generated from release60 branch now.

In translatedfiles.netbeans.org, we're doing localization of NetBeans UI messages into several languages. The source codes (almost .properties files) are stored in cvs.netbeans.org under translatedfiles/src. Many contributors are integrating their responsible files into the source directory. But sometime we did integrate wrong file by mistake, for example,
  • english files
  • file extension is not correct
  • target directory is not correct
I have set up a cronjob in my Solaris box and run several validation scripts everyday. Pulling the sources from cvs and run the script. These results are being uploaded automatically to the translatedfiles.netbeans.org web site. This is useful itself, however it's a post-integration approach. So I was thinking it would be nice if I could provide some scripts to contributors and they could use it before the integration. The problem is that my scripts are sh and perl scripts that run on Solaris. It's not easy to share them because most contributors are using Windows. So I decided to make NetBeans plugins for contributors of translatedfiles.netbeans.org.

This is my first plugin, it's very very small and simple. The instruction has been posted to translatedfiles.netbeans.org.
After you install plugin, select folders that contain localized files, then select Find Un-Necessary Files from context menu.

The plugin is searching and checking the target file is localized file or not. The results will be displayed in Output window like below.
