Japan OpenSolaris User Group in 2008

This year, I can meet a lot of people in opensolaris community activities. With jim-san , I have participated many internatinal opensource community, such as TLUG, Tokyo2.0 . And then, we have built Tokyo OpenSolaris User Group with pietro, edward, who are TLUG guys.   It is still first step. Next year, I'm sure that we try to be more excited to build Tokyo OpenSolaris User Group.

I want to describe what contribute to opensolaris project in JPOSUG. We're getting people by opensolaris seminar/study group/friends(with face to face) and take them to jposug maling list.
We have a lot of conversation in local language and share ideas about opensolaris project.
They're about what we're doing for opensolaris project in japan.

What things people are contributing?

1)How contribute to opensolaris project?

1-1) Development

EeePC project
We have a EeePC guy, ohta-san is active on EeePC project.
He bought EeePC by himself and try to run OpenSolaris on it..

Network driver
Murayama-san is contributing to opensolaris project as developing a lot of network driver, which hasn't worked yet.

Wireless driver Patch
Kobayashi-san is contributing to opensolaris project as providing network driver patch, which is wirelss driver.
Its driver is unique to japan. It is useful for japanese opensolaris user.

OpenSolaris mirror site
Taki-san has built opensolaris mirror site by using own server. I think It's a contribute to opensolaris project.

OpenSolaris article

sato-san wrote up zfs internals article. It's contribute to opensolaris project as writing article for japanese.

1-2) Globalization
g11n-ja-discuss is contribuing to OpenSolaris Japanese localization stuff.
saito-san has the lead of this project.

1-3)Seminar
Solaris night seminar/HotTopics Seminar are provided by opensolaris evangelist team in Sun Japan.
OpenSolaris Evangelist Team in Japan is contributing to opensolaris project as giving a speech.
We provide a seminar once a month. It's a great opportunity to see what opensolaris guys in Japan is doing..

2)What build OpenSoalris Community in Tokyo?

2-1)Tokyo OpenSolaris Study Group
Oono-san and I have built opensolaris study group in jposug.  People are getting together and talk about solaris internal.
Now we hold a meeting once a month. We believe it's useful for studying opensolaris ..

2-2)Tokyo OpenSolaris User Group
pietro and jim build opensolaris internatinal communiy in Tokyo. It's worth for getting international people much more ..
It's for western people and japanese. I think it's also worth for opensolaris user in Tokyo.

I can see a lot of contribution to opensolaris in Tokyo. I enjoyed myself with these activities. Next year, we'll get more people in opensolaris community in tokyo.
