| When losing is good | Hockey |
Well, we lost our playoff game (1-0) but it turns out that might have been for the best. About half of the team (including myself) would not have been able to make the next series of games. And next season starts in just two weeks! During the winter season, some of our games are played at the Shark Tank (HP Pavilion). Given the likelihood of an NHL lockout, we might be the only game in town!

| To solar or not to solar? That is the question... | Life |
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to save the environment...
Bzzzt
Okay, enough of that, but the question does remain, should I install solar-electric panels or not? Doing the math, I probably won't save any money, in fact, it may even cost me. That leaves the "green" factor. The process for making the panels themselves takes its own toll on the environment and I would just be adding to the demand for them (it's fairly high).
On the flip side, now is the time since California's rebate program is almost out of money and I would be saving about $10,000 off the price. It would be impossible to break even paying full price. Even with the rebate, I'd still pay about $18,000 for a 3.5 Kw system (about 80% of my total yearly usage)and save from $50 to $60 a month.
The panels are warrantied for 25 year, but the inverter for only 5 (at which time, if it breaks, costs about $2000 to replace).
Anyone have any really compelling reasons why I should do this?

| Seven more words on a t-shirt | Life |
Jonathan's eleven words are now on a cynical t-shirt with seven more added on the back. Sigh. Someone needs to add a big red
"Yes!" stamp to the back.

I was chastised for not have a recent picture of Hayley. Apparently 4 months != 15 months. So, here are two (count 'em, two!) new and recent pictures.

| Playoff bound | Hockey |
|
My hockey team is going to the playoffs. We're a low level team made up of mostly geeks from Sun, Apple, Adobe, Google, Red Hat and other places. Our goal is to have fun first and win second, but we're managing to do both! Since the last game of the season didn't affect the standings, the offense and defense switched sides. We actually managed to tie, and really should have won. We play the same team in the playoffs, so hopefully we messed up their scouting of us. :) |

| Escape from Sunnyvale! | Life |
I escaped jury duty by the skin of my teeth! After having my name called, answering all of their questions, and actually being seated as "Juror #7", I was thanked and excused by the defending attorney.
I think the secret to being excused is to just talk a lot. Don't lie or anything (I didn't), but just express your detailed opinions on any subject that is mentioned in the questioning. Everyone who simply answered the questions stayed behind, but anyone who volunteered additional or unsolicited information was let go.

| Stuck in jury duty | Life |
The county of Santa Clara requested my presents at the Sunnyvale courthouse. Being the good citizen that I am, I got there promptly at 9:00 am. At 11:00 we were all told that nothing will happen today and that we have to come back tomorrow. Yeah! Since we never even made it into the court room, and were never sworn in, our jury duty service has not been fulfilled! Grrr...

My band will be playing at the Mountain View Small Brewers Festival this Saturday. We're a different kind of band, but people still like us. Remember, the more you drink, the better we sound!

Here's the picure of Hayley, as promised. She's actually only four months old in this shot, but she looks the same! Well, her hair is longer, if you can believe that. We've had to give her four haircuts already.

My daughter was born May 15, 2003, so I'm a little behind recording her every movement. As of today, she already talking (a lot) and walking (a little). If you believe the "percentile" graphs, she's light and short for her age, but has a big head. I call it "smart" and "petite," which is a good combo, IMHO. If I can figure out how to upload an image, I will.

Well, better late than never to this blogging thing. I have no idea what I'm going to put here, but I just want to know how to do it. It's like when you get a new video camera or PDA, you just want to figure out all of the features "just in case."
