Cow Burps Life

Good News/Bad News.

The good news is that cows only produce half the air pollution as previously thought. The bad news is that we're all breathing more cow burps than we thought.

A study at the University of California at Davis (my alma mater, Go Ags!) concluded the following:

California dairy cows produce only half the amount of air pollution as had previously been believed and, perhaps more important, most of a dairy cow's contribution to smog comes not from her manure, but from her belching, says the UC Davis scientist conducting the first controlled study of its kind.

Better burps than the other end... which I understand is a significant contributor of methane as well. Maybe The Cows of the Future will be retrofited with some sort of combustion device (strapped on both ends??)- that will safely burn these gases and reduce them to CO2 and water.

You could hang out in the pasture in summer and have a midnight picnic nicely lit by a field cow torches. :)

That would be a great idea, but it would need to be sound activated so you're not wasting fuel between, uh, emissions. Maybe a BBQ lighter connected to The Clapper™.
