| I Win the Telemarketer Standoff | Humor |
Telemarketer called. I put the phone in front of the TV playing Sesame Street. I checked on the phone a few minutes later and he had put me on hold (spewing more of their spiel). Fine, it's your dime, dumbass! I'm not paying for this, you are.
Twenty minutes later (Sesame Street ends), I'm still on hold. Put phone on mute since TV is going off. Toss phone under couch cushion so I don't have to hear it.
40 minutes now and I hear the faint beeping of the "off the hook" noise.
I win!

a personal favourite of mine (from an old 'global' email) is to ask the telemarketer to slow down as i am writing everything they say down. i ask them to go back to the start and then kinda pretend i'm writing it down, very slowly. typically they say something like 'why are you doing that?' to which i reply that i transcribe all my phone calls, for my 'records' :) if they are persistent enough to go with it, i then tell them i need a copy in spanish as well and that i have a pocket translator which i am using to translate what they say, so they will have to slow down.
if they are still there i start to get them to spell almost every other word they say. if they are still going for it then it's getting clear that they are having a pretty boring day at work and i try to steer the conversation towards video games or speed metal :))

A telemarketer called me. "You've won a Cancun vacation. Press 9 to talk to an operator." I pressed 9. They asked two questions (Are you interested? Do you have a credit card?) I answered yes, and they transfered me to another person. I didn't say anything and they thought something was broken. They went away to fix it, but I was still connected when they came back to handle the next call. For the next three hours I listened to the telemarketer. (No one accepted the deal.) They stopped for the night and I was still connected, so I just left the phone off the hook.
Unfortunately I had to use the phone the next day, but they were connected for about 17 hours before I hung up.

What do you mean you may never blog again? I know certain Zep peeps...who have an artillery of cacti on hand to address "situations" on this blog.
