UPDATE [09/13/2007]:
Hey, I'm not the only one who thinks this thing could go south.  Who is the Robert Plant guy anyway?  Oh, right.  Look at this youthful face of rock n' roll.

Robert Plant

For the record, I own every Led Zeppelin album released.  I even own a Dread Zeppelin reggae album.  However, I've also heard many of their later live performances and they're not very good.  Even Page's and Plant's solo live covers aren't good.  For whatever reason, they jumped the shark long ago.

Final Update [02/15/2008]: Does anyone remember laughter?

Do you think you'll cause this much response to ANYTHING when you're their age?

Pretty funny. Someone should record parodies along these lines.

Led Zeppelin is one of the best bands to grace this planet and while I don't hope you choke on a cactus, I wouldn't mind seeing a really super sharp thorn poke into one of your calluses!!!

Posted by Skrocki on September 13, 2007 at 06:56 PM PDT #

I'll take that as a NO...

And besides, "Whole Lotta Viagra" would have been much funnier and more in line with the original intent, don't you think?

Being from New Jersey it is going to be hard to be able to see them live. Is there any talk about a pay per view showing?

Show respect to the greatest BAND in rock history!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Larry on September 15, 2007 at 02:10 PM PDT #

Pretty funny stuff, but remember you ARE talking about the greatest rock band that ever stepped on a stage. I saw Led Zeppelin in the early seventies, and before and since have seen virtually all of rocks greatest bands. Trust me, no band in rock history, not even the magnificent Who at their ablsoulte peak, could compete with a fully focused and firing on all cylinders Led Zeppelin. This band truly possessed an almost magical chemistry and jaw dropping power that placed them all alone, in a class by themselves. In a single decade they produced an original and enduring body of brilliant music that is still astonishing and inspirational in its sheer variety and scope. The quality and power of that music is what attracts and holds tens of thousands of new Zep fans every year, thus, I'm not surprised that their fanbase appears to still, easily, be the largest in the world based on the unprecedented staggering demand to see 75% of Led Zeppelin(120-million hits in 24 hours). Not a single entertainment act in the world could approach the demand created by this reunion. P.S. Yes, they had some inconsistent performances in the later years, but remember, even on an off night Zeppelin were still far better than any band in the world. I do have a Zep concert tape from 1977 nicknamed 'Listen To This Eddie', and it's the single greatest performance I've ever heard in my life. So they could clearly still bring it in the later years.

KEVIN,YOU'RE A DICK!

Posted by JOE on September 16, 2007 at 08:57 PM PDT #

Led Zeppelin was good, but they're in their 60's and they don't have John Bonham anymore, one of the greatest drummers of all time. I think they're last album went downhill a bit, and I've heard of bad live performances after their break-up. This reunion isn't going to be any different. They probably are going to be terrible. The greatest rock band of all time can't fight age.

Posted by George on September 17, 2007 at 08:06 PM PDT #

I appreciate and was amused by the titles, but obviously you're not a Zep fan. And as far as over the hill, the Stones can't be matched. What about Little Richard, Chuck Berry, et al.? It's the sheer snideness I don't agree with.

ON NOVEMBER 26 THE GREATEST LIVE ROCK BAND OF ALL TIME WILL PLAY IN ENGLAND YOU WILL BE STUNNED AND AMAZED TO THE POINT OF HUMILITY AND WILL BOW IN FRONT OF YOUR ZEP ALBUMS ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS FOR YOUR BLASPHMEY

Posted by GUITARCOYOTE on September 26, 2007 at 07:27 PM PDT #

Led Zeppelin crosses all generations. Their music is ageless. There is a reason for that: They were/are the greatest foursome to assemble on stage and in the studio. Being 50 or 60 years of age does NOT mean you're dead or roll over and die because you've aged. Aging rockers of the 60's and 70's command and get the respect they deserve because their music is timeless, unlike alot of manufactured crap music nowadays. There's a reason for so many 'classic rock' radio stations, and Led Zeppelin leads the pack, and always will.
For all you naysayers out there in cyberspace, when YOU get old, let's see if you're ready to call it quits for whatever is your life's passion.

Posted by Liz on October 01, 2007 at 04:02 PM PDT #

They were the most influential and diverse group of muscians ever. They are the top three greatest of all time in album sales and set and broke most concert attendance records. The writer of this article is a very ignorant person.

Posted by Chris on October 02, 2007 at 11:37 AM PDT #

yep pretty funny, the 'improved' song titles and the passionate response of all the fanboys, born after their live aid comeback. led zep were a four piece not a three piece with a session drummer (even bonham's son doesn't count) they can't reform anymore than the beatles can.

this isn't a concert, it's a freak show. how many of the ticket hunters actually have any lz albums? sorry that should read mp3s lol. if evil kenevel said he was going to jump the taj mahal on a mountain bike it would be a sell out too. but people would be buying tickets to stare at the old freak make a fool of himself and it's the same with lz. this is an historic event, not a musical one.

no sorry guys their music isn't ageless. they are not the greatest band of all time etc. and they were not influential in the slightest (in terms of writing and performing music).. it's like when you tell people your girl/guy is the greatest and they smile and then change the subject. you are a fan. and we don't get the word fan from fantastic it comes from fanatic!

*note to fanboys - i am old, i have all the lz albums on vinyl (ask your mom) i can play every note on the first four albums. i like lz. however, that doesn't mean they are great, jeez! just some crunchy old british blues!

Kevin surely you jest! So the last two reunions were last second rush jobs. NOT THIS TIME! Jimmy Page will appear more mysterious than ever: perhaps bearded and with a dazzling new costume befitting of rock's most powerful sorcerer. He will mesmerize and hypnotize his audience with tidal waves of harmonic distortion and echelons of searing sonic power.
Jason Bonham will reduce his drumkit into rubble, his cymbals into shrapnel, and his drumsticks into sawdust. He will pound himself into a trance-like state onstage and temporarily exchange his soul with his father's risen spirit. Bonzo will be with us once more. After the show his hotel room will look like a tornado hit it.
John Paul Jones will watch television until 20 minutes before the show, calmly strap on his bass with 5 minutes to go, quietly take his place by the drums, and unleash 1000,000 watts of sordid virtuosity on an unsuspecting London Arena,
testing its structural integrity and making its architects more nervous than the guys designing the new World Trade Center. Then he'll go home and make a sandwich and watch some more television.
And alas, Robert Plant will appear as the Thunder God Thor, brazenly baring his Michelangelo chest and summoning in the cold November winds from Valhalla. The mere echoes of his barbaric wails will tear the fabric from the seats.
There will be lights! There will be lasers! There will be explosions and fog machines! And there will be joy. Lots and lots of joy!
But what devilish tricks will the self-invited Jagger have up his sleeve should he slip onstage with the excuse of Bill Wyman. Will he dare crash the party with an insipid version of Sympathy For The Devil? And would he chance allowing the direct comparison? Mirror mirror on the the wall, who were the baddest of them all? Was it Zeppelin or the Stones? On November 26 it might be said, Zeppelin will grind The Stones to make their Bread! Fe Fi Fo Fom!

From Australia, let me just tell you that I saw Page and Plant in 1995 (sure it was 12 years ago) at a sold out Melbourne venue of 20,000 (incidentally they did a second night at the same venue 2 days later). The crowd was a mix of original Zep fans like myself, and the new generation of around 17 - 20 year olds. It is the only concert I have been to (and I've seen some big acts) where every single song received a standing ovation. Better still was the look of amazement and awe on the faces of the younger fans. No doubt until that time, conned into thinking Guns & Roses etc, were the real thing. Page is not the same guitarist he was, and without Bonzo and JPJ on bass, it lacked a solid rythm wall BUT, they more than made up for it with the Egyptian and string orchestras, brought in to breathe new life into the old Zep material. Trust me, these guys place their reputations above money. They would not do it unless the rehearsals went well, and that they were positive they would put on a great show. Hold onto your hats - the greatest band of all time is set to carve up the stage one more time!

If your not a true zeppelin fan, save your comments! Their music has truly moved me through the years and has not dminished even slightly. They are my musical heroes and if Robert Plant decided to fart the songs out instead of singing, I'd still be there. A good point was made here. They have rehearsed this time. They are well aware of the implications of a bad show. If you have that little faith and are not a true fan, shut the hell up and go see Aerosmith or the Police!!! My only complaint about this whole thing is why there are no plans to broadcast or even tape the show! Thats not cool for a true fan of 35 years. Lets hope someone changes their mind!!!!!!1

I rated Zep ahead of Pink Floyd circa 1980 but I sincerely doubt this Zep will be able to match anything Pink Floyd or Roger Waters or David Gilmour have done most recently (2005-2007) on stage. The Floyd/Waters/Gilmour shows have been audio-visually stunning and epic this decade and they're older than Page, Plant and Jones.

A BILLION hits on the website for tickets, with 25 million attempting to register!! I'd say along with being the best rock band that ever stepped on a stage, it's clear that Led Zeppelin remain far and away the most popular band in the world. I'm 48 years old, and as I said before I've seen virtually all the greats, and Led Zeppelin remain in a class by themselves. No band before or since could remotely compete with Zeppelin in their prime. The whining Lilliputian chorus of Zeppelin critics represent an infinitesimal minority when compared to the colossal and ever growing number of people for whom mere mention of this band inspires instant awe and unshakable respect. The greatest catalogue of recorded music in rock history, and the standard by which all others are still measured, belongs to the mighty Led Zeppelin. Don't ever let any musical elitist jerk tell you differently.

you know what? led zeppelin is old. i love them dearly, but they look ancient. there is no reason to get angry at the guy who is just having some good fun with the truth. in 2002, robert plant himself in an interview said there is no good reason for a reunion. though there is now, i'm sure it's due to peer pressure from jimmy page and large sums of money. why isn't this being filmed? oh, so if zepp sucks (which it very well might), they don't want the concert to ever be seen by anyone other than those who paid thousands for tickets to the show. you people have to relax. when im old and gray and people make fun of me, i won't blame them. I mean, do you honestly think Robert Plant takes it personally that he looks freakishly old for 59? He doesn't care about this blog or humor made about him. He made the choice in the 70s to abuse his body; so thats why he has a premature eye sagging and turkey neck. It doesn't change the man himself, but you people have to chill. theres plenty humor in the tour song change thing. I'm sorry you can't admit what led zeppelin knows: THEY ARE OLD. Nothing to be ashamed of. And you don't have to take it so seriously. Mick Jagger once said that he doesn't want to be an old fart playing satisfaction, but will you look at him now! I LOVE LED ZEPPELIN, but I don't understand why you have such hostility towards this song change thing, it's just a joke.

Posted by Simon on December 09, 2007 at 09:27 PM PST #

Kevin, shame on you! I've seen Zep in Indy twice and they are the greatest ever!
I'm a 54 year old woman and I sure don't look like I did when I was 25. Robert looks fine to me and he can come over to my house anyday! Ah, the 70's!!!

Posted by RED on December 10, 2007 at 04:04 PM PST #

well the old ladies have played their gig. people are saying wow it was great and that they weren't disapointed. yeah right. zeplin did not exist without bohnam, simple as. he died, they stopped. watching some founder members scratching their way through some old zep songs is 'like' seeing led zeplin but it's not the same.

i guess it's normal for people of a certain age to want to connect with lz and the 70s and rock music history. but for them to think that by paying big bucks online and then turning up at some embarrasing spectacle, that they have made this connection is dillusional. all they have connected with is harvey goldsmith (the promoter). harvey said 'jump' and they said how high? and how much?

this little old lady was not available for comment

THE REASON BANDS LIKE LED ZEPPELIN ,AND CREAM SEEMS SO GREAT AND DIFFERENT IS BECAUSE EVERYTHING NOW SEEMS TO BLOW -I DO LIKE JET BUT EVERYBODY ELSE COULD BE DOING AND SINGING ABOUT A LOT MORE THEN THEIR DOING , SOME SEEM LIKE THIE SLEEP WALKING THOUGH THEIR CAREER----ROCK ON-------------HIPPIE FREEDOM

Who will Led Zeppelin have as an opening act on their 2008 US tour???
The rumors have finally been silenced: Plant has personally tapped his illegitimate son's band--MEAN VENUS--to open all 2008 shows.
MEAN VENUS' lead singer, J, when recently interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine, spoke of his utter disbelief at the prospect:
"I only found out he [Plant] was my dad a few years ago.
My mum hid it from me for the majority of my life. So to actually be going on the road with my Dad is bloody outrageous!".....

YEAH! WOW! I have been hearing about this all over the place. I guess if Bonham's kid is going to be onboard that Plan't should be too. Pretty crazy. MEAN VENUS. Going to have to check them out. If it's Plant's kid singing he has to be good!!!

See at the shows!!!

Is this supposed to be the son Jesse Lee born in 1991 or 1993? This was all I ever new about RP's other son before this latest rumor. What is strange is the age thing. He certainly doesn't look 17. If you look at his my space page he is from NJ, so why in an interview would he say mum instead of mom? Doesn't make much sense to me... I do believe Robert has another son aside from Logan, but who the hell really knows the truth?

Posted by Tracy on January 17, 2008 at 07:51 AM PST #

I had heard a while ago that when mean venus lost their bassist that John Paul Jones sat in on the recording sessions for them. In the album credits they list John Baldwin as the bassist and John Baldwin is John Paul Jones real name. Makes sense that they would get th Zeppelin tour. Kind of like a passing of the torch.

Posted by bob on January 17, 2008 at 11:25 AM PST #

If anyone is really interested you can go to the Robert Plant homepage where you will find the name of RP's son is Jesse and the name of the group is Aura. Check it out for yourself at www.myspace.com/aurarocknblues. So about this Mean Venus thing... I'm not so sure.

Led Zepellin were the best.
i would have killed to go to their reunion.

Jealousy says everything. Led Zeppelins' success may never be matched. They had more success in the first year than most do in a lifetime and a career of 28 plus years is proof enough. We all should honor these musicians and be proud we were alive to experience their success.
