| My namesake is a jerk | Life |
My name is Kevin Chu, but there is another Kevin Chu out there that really pisses me off. Maybe more!
I recently got a gmail account, and while I don't expect to get my first choice for account name,
I wasn't expecting what I found. Literally every possible combination of "kevin" and "chu" were
taken. I don't know how many accounts gmail has handed out, but I've had more success at
Yahoo and AOL getting reasonable account names. When "k.e.v.i.n.c.h.u" was taken, I nearly
had a fit. I ended up settling for mr.kevinchu@gmail.com because I can just tell people,
"Hey, that's MISTER to you!" and hopefully they'll remember that part.
Given the ease at which every single member of my friends and family have been able to get their first choice for gmail account, I can't belive that I had to settle for like my tenth choice. I must conclude that some other Kevin Chu sent himself a bunch of invitations and took all of the good choices. There just can't be that many unique Kevin Chu's in the gmail system when "bobsmith" just got his first choice, yes?
Now, I'm guessing that this is the same Kevin Chu who owns kevinchu.com, and who hasn't don't anything with it for 6 years now (and counting). This guy beat me to my domain name by like a week. Since then, he's put up an "under construction" page, which was there for years. Then he just started redirecting people to other pages. It used to go yahoo.com, but now it goes to some private investigator in Utah! Go figure. I'm not including a link, since I don't want him getting any link counts (technorati lists him at a big, fat zero).
p.s. If you want a gmail account, send me an email.
