We at Sun have talked a lot about open source lately. After all, it isn't every day that you open source one of the most widely used languages in the world.

What I have found though is that there isn't widespread understanding of how much Sun has done in open source in other areas. One key complaint I have is that there are folks that still aren't aware that Solaris has been open source for some time but we still get grouped with other other Unix's all the time as I blogged about before here and here.

But we also have a number of other open source projects on java.net. I'd like to call a few out related to what is being done around JBI and some projects using it.

First, we have GlassFish, the open source project for Java EE and the foundation for Sun's application server.

Second, there is the Open JBI Components project that has been newly formed to foster the development of a variety of Service Engines and Binding Components that conform to the JBI/JSR-208 spec.

Third, there is Project Open ESB. This is the project that pulls together the various pieces from GlassFish, NetBeans, and the Open JBI Components projects to create an Enterprise Service Bus based on open standards. You will be hearing more about this from us soon.

So, take a look at the projects and if you are so inclined, join one and help contribute to the development of some great technologies and components
