Back to the basics (german style) Sometimes it's good to look back at the foundations. It's good that some of the pioneers of our field have contributed their recollections of the earliest days.

Anyone else recall when ceramic bbq's were cheap? When I was a kid in the City of the Angles (pun intended), there was a store called "Akron". I recall we picked up several ceramic bbq's there over the years, spending only about $100 or so each. Of course, that was when $100 was something ;> but it wasn't *that* much.

These days, what appears to be a similar design, tends to cost a fair bit. Perhaps the materials are significantly improved.
