A new service was launched yesterday for twitter users to be able to update your twitter status when you submit a blog. Below is how I configured the service for use with BSC.

- Visit the site microping.me and register for a new account, details you will require are:

    • username, password for the service
    • Twitter Username
    • Twitter Password
    • Blog Domain
    • RSS URL for the feed you want to auto update mine is http://blogs.sun.com/kjt/feed/entries/rss

It is worth nothing that microping offer two services an automatic ping for all blog submissions as well as a simple ping which you control.

- Once registered you will need to check that microping.me is configured correctly to do this I used the simple ping url in my browser and then checked my twitter status.  Once working correctly you can use this URL to update your twitter status with the last blog entry you submitted.

Of course to get the full benefit of an automatice ping to Twitter you have to configure BCS to ping microping.me whenever a submission is created. This can be completed as follows:

    • Copy the ping URL that is given once registered
    • Create a custom ping in BCS by visiting Preferences - Custom Ping Targets - Add new target
    • Name the target somethings sensible and paste the URL.
    • Create your next blog entry submit and then check your Twitter Status

If you have any trouble using microping.me the creator is very helpful and responded in minutes UK time.
