Following short message should be taken as a pre-announcement. Official announcement is going to be published very soon (expected Today) on official GeeCON web, GeeCON Facebook group and LinkedIn one.

The case of this announcement is following. One day before the GeeCON conference itself there will be Sun Learning Services Workshop. We can call it GeeCON Trainings day it depends on you. More important are topics of 4 organized courses. There I’m only announce names of courses. You can find more at links mentioned above.

Workshop A: Developing Innovative Multimedia JavaFX Applications

Workshop B: Business Component Development with Enterprise JavaBeans Technology

Workshop C: Using Java EE Patterns in Architecting and Designing Robust Java EE Applications

Workshop D: Developing Java Web Services

PS: All students should start increasing theirs curiosity about GeeCON. We are going to announce something very very smart. Stay tuned!

Registration form!

I did promise in the last post about SCA meeting in Prague to blog more about. Here it is. I know that there was little delay but I guess all participant of GeeCON conference will be very happy for this delay. I did lot of work with our GeeCON team in this case.

Second day was more technical. I’m very glad for because several of SCA had very strange questions. Theirs questions only uncover theirs unfamiliarity with several quite basic SUN product.s Technical day was arranged to do very big change and step forward. By a change I mean get motivation to learn much more and increase curiosity. I’m sure we ware very successful!

SCA little warmed up by very good and nice presentation about OpenSolaris driven by David Botterill and much more by Guys from SST Team (Solaris System Testing Team ). This amazing start was followed by NetBeans Roadmap done by John Jullion-Ceccarelli. I’m sure after this started every of SCAs felt satisfied. As little regeneration we got lunch. Everybody had new power then we started with Presentation around NetBeans. It was more introduction and it should show to SCAs how to present. I think only little doubt about needs could be when most of SCA are experienced in NetBeans and Java too.  But it definitely increased they awareness about presenting skills. Nevermind then we had very cool Cold Lab Tour followed by visit of Usability Lab (See any of my previous posts)

Glassfish – very nice and good presentation. Everybody was excited from. And as it seems Glassfish team is going to have an presentation at Fontys University of Applied Science. I’ll blog about later on.

Technical day was amazing and SCAs got lot of motivation…

I did post presentation to our SCA internal portal have a look for inspiration here ...

I did the last post about GeeCON progress week ago. During this time lot of things happen. I am going to start with announcement about our sponsors. SUN is now Platinum sponsor of this conference which is very good sign for whole region. Special thanks belong to all people involved in. The list is very long (Reggie, Aaron, Raoul, Jim, Matt, Radek, Adrian, Me :), Pavel, Agatha ... and many others ). We are still under the negotiation with others companies. It means that the list is still now full. Our current sponsors are SUN, Spring Source, Adobe, Google, JetBrains

I'm proud also to pre-announce training sessions during whole conference and the training day one day before the conference. But whole GeeCON team is still working to finalize all these possibilities. There is plan to have discounts for certification exams and much more others. So let it be as surprise for the next post :) I guess training day could be very nice opportunity for companies to increase employee knowledge.

There are lots of reasons to be registered before the conference. Here is one of them everybody could win IntelliJ IDEA licence. Second is that we can do better plan for all attendances. The third is that it is cheaper :)

Now we have also our GeeCON groups on facebook and LinkedIn. You could also register there to get more information about Krakow and planed flow of conference. See you there!

I wanted to post this part yesterday but I was too busy by other tasks. I caught only images preparation. It took little time to convert them all to JPG format. So back to the day 1 of SCA Prague meeting.

Only comments to images: Img1. Our meeting room Img2. I was awarded by Poland Ambassadors by Vodka be cause this support and issues we solved in Poland. Thank you again ! My pleasure to support you guys. Img3. David Botterill our every great tech lead

During this day most of all ambassadors were in Prague since day before but during early morning we were completed. Last group from Poland came too. We named unofficial photographer of this meeting. Named was Andrzej Grzesik. In this way I want to thanks him for all images he did :)

Comments: Img1 Leen before hers presentation about SAI. Cecilia sat close to Leen. Img2 My desk changed after Guy awarded me. Cheer and vodka for being stronger :) in managing meeting background.   Img3 Sharing experiences between Hungary, Poland and Czech :) Zoltan and Andrzej are in direction finder

Day 1 was focused on marketing questions. Ambassadors recognized them self too. Everybody was little different then in image placed in the OSUM portal :) Sometimes it was funny.

Comments: Img1:our room Img2: Claudio Serena and Daniel Img3: we had discussion on every coffee breaks :)

The first presentation had our site director Pavel Suk. He started our meeting in really great way ! Pavel introduced our Czech Site and also cooperating with Czech universities. This news were really inspiration for most of ambassadors. I came 10 minutes late because metro was broken. What say more I really wanted to be there in time but we have Murphy laws.

After Pavel's introduction Alexander and Cecilia (SCA Program managers). Had presentation about communities and program goals. They did also  long recap. They describe also importance of OSUM. After theirs presentation we did also brainstorming about OSUM improvements. This was really interesting but I could mention it later ;) I should have presentation together with Cecilia but in the end I just only introduced the result of our brainstorming session. I hope it satisfied all of SCAs  because they asked me many times when I'm going to have presentation. In the future I'm looking forward to have longer presentation for them. But during our meeting I had a full plate with duties connected with managing other things connected with right flow.

Comments: Img1: Davind is looking for inspiration Img2: Our special guest Roman Strobl but without any presentation because he was too busy Img3: Our Brainstorming session about OSUM led by Cecilia

Sun Learning Services Department was introduced by Pavel Veljacik. He explained to ambassadors what SCA Program really offers to them. Ambassadors  have unique chance to increase their knowledge by certification using and what does it really means to be certificated. Other point was differences between certification levels. Leen Marcelis did very nice overview about our SAI ( Sun Academic Initiative ). SAI is offered to every ambassador for free. Every ambassador could also provide access to his campus. SAI can be used by every university or student for free. SAI should be offered hand by hand with OSUM.

We had also session of sharing best practices between all SCA some of them had presentation. It uncovered that across European countries are big differences. What is in one country applicable in other country is not working. But definitely this experience was very useful for all who were not familiar with. About that I had very long discussions with most of ambassadors. I tried to ask them for all theirs needs and difficulties. We had also in most of cases discussion how to improve it and what kind of help they need. Everybody was more open to me when they speak to me personally. I was glad to have such discussion. I really appreciate all open conversation I had about. It could help me to better understand.

On the end of this more marketing day ( Some of SCAs named it as brainwashing day) we had very nice dinner in Novomestsky Pivovar. But about this part of day in next post :)

Monday Feb 23, 2009

Hello everybody I'm back! As you have noticed I didn't do any posts about our successful Prague SCA Meeting. It was because I was on my holiday since the meeting finished. Nice time to be away from everything, internet included:) I worked very hard in last couple weeks before to do this event possible and well organized.

Anyway in this short post I want to mention that everybody was really surprised by our meeting and its organization. In the next posts I'm going to share some photos, presentations and experiences.

In short I'm very glad that our meeting wasn't only marketing focused event. It was really much more technical than all SCA expected. All Ambassadors got opportunity to meat real engineers who are working very hardly on SUN great products.  They had also opportunity to visit some laboratories ;) I have to also mention that we avoided to all possible difficulties. We had only one small case with documents lost but it was solved. I'm glad that every SCA survive :)

See you in next blog.

PS: Dark side of my being back is that I have to finish connected things with our meeting.

Now I notify I have not mention any GeeCON conference progress. Now we are still before registration period. If any body has in his mind to send us his paper for GeeCON conference to present. He should do it very soon.  For doing this use our  email call-for-papers@geecon.org.

In this case I'm proud to announce big interest to have presenation at GeeCON. Another very nice information to share around is Sun technologies seminars possibility. These seminars could be one day before or during whole conference. They are going to be focused on main Sun technologies. In this case I could note Sun Certification Exams. This point is very nice for all IT companies because of discounts during whole conference.

Lot of things are going to be uncover. Stay in touch and GeeCON in your heart.
PS: If any of Java User Groups wants to be our media partner please send an email to us too.

As I bloged about Grid Engine in the past so now I'm posting connected article about. I think great success are Bachelor thesis we have started together with CVUT university. Both are going very well and students seem to be very motivated to continue in theirs great studies.  Lubos Petrik decided to create usability study and we invited and asked students to try and test new version of GUI installer.  Other advantage of this event was  Cold Lab Tour. They got opportunity to have a talk about virutalization with our specialst Pavel Kucara. I guess they were happy :).
Faces on  images are  blurred because of respecting student's personalities.

Here is short description about study we did:

The focus of this study is on reporting and resolving errors during the installation. We want to find out if the users can understand our error messages and can continue with a problem resolution.

Monday Feb 02, 2009

We are still closer to the final date of our meeting in Prague. I do believe all SCAs are looking forward for our presentation sessions. Whole schedule is going to be announce very soon. Now I'm want to uncover small part. During our Prague meeting we are going to have Cold Lab Tour. I do believe most of SCA will have questions about virtualization methods and hardware. They will see it in real !  Here I'm providing some images as motivation. Isn't cold lab nice ?.

This post I have prepared more than month. Today I find short time for post it. On 11.12.08 together with my colleagues (I, Roman, Ales) we went to Brno. There we should visit partnership meeting at Masary University - Faculty of Informatics. I don't want to bother you by details around our travel from Prague to Brno. We used highway and car ;) I have to note that they have very nice lecture room for this kind of events. Here is small overview around presenations we had.

Red Hat Czech, s.r.o. , IBA CZ, s.r.o., IBM Česká republika, spol. s r.o., Javlin a.s., ecommerce.cz, a.s. , Hewlett-Packard s.r.o.  , MSR Engines , Sun Microsystems Czech, s.r.o. , USU Software, s.r.o. , ZONER software s.r.o.

We have started contact with IBM and others. We had discussion with our current partners.  Whole atmosphere was very nice. We also spoke to students about our technologies . We have prepared Awards fot students so we did small test of theirs knowledges about SUN. Main thing is that they interested about cooperation with SUN as part-time employee and also on any thesis. In this case of thesis I hope we will be able to develop this connection with Brno much more.

Small note to the end. Roman did very nice presentation about opensolaris ;) he did also nice note about concurency. It was funny because he had presentation befor RedHat.
