I think that many students are using for testing opensolaris distributions Ubuntu Linux instead of Windows VISTA. This information should help them to do it more easier.
When I was installed my virtualbox 1.5.6 I had to solve some issues. There are very good steps to do it quite faster. You can follow them. Good luck and lot of new experiences with opensolaris
1) #vi /etc/apt/sources.list
2) put there : "deb http://www.virtualbox.org/debian gutsy non-free"
3) save
file ":wq" inside vi
4) # sudo apt-get update
5) At Synaptic package manager -> Search for "virtualbox" -> mark only
"virtualbox" 1.5.6
6) Press APPLY -> Virtualbox will be installed in few moments
7) after you need to add your self to
#sudo adduser <your username> vboxusers

I have read all articles on the forum links. I don't know want is the plan with wirtualbox. I only remember that Rich Green mention that virutalbox should stay free and fully opensource. If I get new information I'll blog about. Thanks about this information.

No problem at all. You are by far not the only one who doesn't have a clue about the future of the project, which is why I would like to make people aware about what is going on - or better, the lack of information about that. I will keep checking your blog, thanks a lot for willing to participate in this matter!

You are welcome! I remmember when I was on R.Green pressentaion when SUN bought Innotec. He said that gonna change only owner and no big strategy changes. If I'm remember it well. But it's really nice you get other people awere about this issue. Anyway do you have a blog ? VirtualBox is really great piece of software I think SUN managers know it. Sometime is here other issue: Sun doesn't know how powerful technology has ....

It's very interesting that you have this kind of information, really! The feeling for me, as a user, is that since the first version that was released after Sun acquainted Innotek (1.6) there were a lot of changes specifically for Solaris etc. That's not something you can blame them, ofcourse not, but I'm sure that that was not the original plan for version 1.6, so it just has to be that there was a change in strategy. And taking the repositories down is, for me at least, indeed a big strategic change, but most of all one that wouldn't hurt Sun at all if they left it there. Why wouldn't they just provide for 1.6 as well, instead of taking it down for all versions?
I do not have a blog, since I have been really busy for high school (that sounds unbelievable, maybe, but it's a fact). I hope to be able to sort things out in the near future, and putting a blog online is one of those 'goals' I want to achieve when I get the chance to focus on it. I'll let you know if I should finally succeed in doing so!

Hi man,
I have discussed about this issue with gyus from solaris team. We all don't know right strategy. In version 1.6 are changes for solaris (much better support) and I think that could be the reason why they have stopped support for other version. If I don't forget I would ask other guys. I have it in my mind and I let you know.

Thanks a lot, really! I appreciate your attention to this matter.
I included the URL of the blog I was planning to set up. It won't stay on that domain, but hopefully I have enough interesting things to write about so it will have a good reason to exist.
Cheers to you!
