My trip to IEC
I had been to IEC ,a couple of weeks back.
Here is a report on what I did there,
I reached Banglore on June 7 th morning.
June 7th : (Thursday)
I went to office to meet Poornima and make arrangements for my Loner's card.I also got to know where i got to sit for work and how to reach office etc.
June 8th: (Friday)
I started my regular work. Pradeep came to the office and we had a discussion on the project requirements in a conference room. He also showed me what he had done .
we had many doubts which we clarified with Ganesh through mail.
June 11 (Monday)
I started reading Apache Derby .
I dowloaded Derby and Installed it in Sun Ray in my home directory and started doing some database work to get to know that more.
I also met Ananth during Lunch.
June 12(Tuesday ):
I took my laptop to the office as I had to configure and Install Apache for which I needed a root access and i couldn get that in a Sun Ray.
I met Mr Prem (an Engineer from Sun who works in Java team).
He helped me in configuring the laptop to connect to the network by reconfiguring it, and how to install apache etc.
June 13(Wednesday):
Ganesh came from US. We(Me Pradeep and Ganesh)had a talk about the project.We finalised the project requirements.we also had lunch with him.
We spoke to Abishek about the project and we discussed the template design
June 14(Thursday):
I spoke to Renjith Aryaveedu about hosting the portal in SunWeb. We also had a conference call with Abishek about this .Pradeep couldn come as he had exams then. I started working on the database design.
June 15(Friday):
I finalised the database design and I sent it across to all ambassadors for their ideas.I also spoke to Abishek about that.I read JSP and started doing some scripts just to brush up.
We could not work on Satuday and Sunday as the network was down.
June 18(Monday):
we had problems in hosting the site . So Ganesh and me had a conference call with Chinese web masters of the site "opentech.ac.in" regarding hosting the tool in that chinese site.We decided to work using PHP & MySQL which was then changed to use Java DB and JSP.
June 19(Tuesday):
We had a conference call with Vijay Daniel and Prashanth regarding the PSG Faculty training Program. The topics on which to talk about were decided.
We also had a conference call with Sreedhar , Ryetika regarding the project contest(A contest that we are planning to float across Tamil Nadu).
June 20(Wednesday):
I continued working on the project , meanwhile I met so many people.
* I met KNR , and spoke to him about what next can be done in TCE.
* He encouraged me so much and we discussed the following topics,
1)Curriculum Adoption
2)Campus Ambassador Program in general
3)His visit to TCE ( He told us he would drop in any time and talk to the college authorities regarding academic activities at TCE).
I also met Pradhap , Vineet , Moinak and Veena.
June 21(Thursday):
I met Ananth Shrinivas(an alumnus) at 5:30 pm.
We spoke on a lot of things including,
1)Sun guru Program at TCE
2)Certification Programs and setting up a prometric centre in TCE.
3)Curriculum adoption - He told me he can send some materials for OS lab assignments.
Then on my project that i had planned to do,
1)Porting a GNU/Linux application to Solaris.
June 22(Friday):
I met Joseph George (our college alumnus)in the morning at 9;00 am and we discussed on what can be done at TCE regarding the Sun academic programs.
He gave me some ideas on what projects can be taken up by TCE students.
I left Banglore on Saturday.I am really thankful for Sun for giving such a good opportunity to be there and meet great people.
