Great Tool for Travel Planning

I wish I had used this great travel tool, dohop, when I was making my travel plans this last holiday season.  In less than 5 seconds this search engine delivers results from over 660 airlines, including a over 100 low-cost airlines that you won't find on Expedia, Yahoo!, and Priceline.  Which means you get many more connection options than the traditional travel agencies (online and offline) can get you as these low-cost airlines are not in their system.

Try inserting some destinations in the flash image above, and submit a search. The results they give you are pretty impressive, and so is the interface. Pretty neat use of AJAX and javascript. Dohop apparently made the list of the Best of the Best Web 2.0 web sites last year, tops the list for travel website.

You could alse have used www.momondo.com, which is even more comprehensive than dohop. Dohop has coverage of about 150 sites, momondo is covering more than 350...

I’ve read the above and just wanted to add some to what has already been said The tendency in the industry is quite interesting as we see the big online travel agencies (say Expedia and such) lose a great part of the market share to many of the meta-search engines. Of course, Dohop is worth mentioning as they have a fast and comprehensive calculation especially useful to get a general overview on flights. This be said, the competition is strong and there are, as in any other industry, a list of alternatives which suits different needs. Kayak is mainly centered on the American market – the same goes with Sidestep and Mobissimo – but lacks in coverage when it comes to European flights. Developed in the UK, Skyscanner primarily deals with departures from Britain, although they’re expanding to include a broader part of the international flights. Momondo is based in Denmark, Scandinavia, and was launched on September 1, 2006. We are the up-and-coming site with the most comprehensive search on low-cost airlines mainly focusing on the European market. Our purpose and future goal is not only to be a search engine, but also to become an interactive site with focus on easy-to-use features, general travel information and user-written content. Regards, Mads Emil The Momondo Team
