Venue: BVBCET, Hubli.

A workshop on JavaFX was conducted as a part of the National level tech fest, ‘Pleiades-09’ (www.pleiades.org.in ), at B.V.Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering & Technology (www.bvb.edu ), Hubli,. The workshop was attended by participants from more than 10 colleges. The no. of participants in JavaFX workshop reached a 100.

The workshop started off with the welcome of prof. Vishwanath Patil. Prof. VishwanathPatil was introduced by Hareesh Joshi. After the formal inauguration, workshop was begun by Vishwanath sir with the theory session. The theory session continued for 3 hours, where participants were given an overview of what JavaFX is all about, why it is useful and few applications were also shown.

Following the theory session was the lunch break, followed by the hands-on session which continued for 4 hours. The hands-on session was handled in 2 labs, dividing the no. of participants equally. One lab was handled by Vishwanath sir along with Malay, Paramashree and Rahul. The other lab was handled by Hardick, Hareesh, Bharath and Madhumita. In the hands-on session, the participants were taught how to write the codes to create simple applications starting from the basics. The participants enjoyed learning the new language and creating new applications. The feedback from the participants was also taken. The response was great. The participants gave a positive feedback saying they had liked the workshop very much, they learnt a lot of new things and wished if it were a 2-day session. Finally, at the end of the workshop sessions, Vishwanath sir was given a vote of thanks and was also presented with a bag from Sun. Then, our Sun Campus Ambassador, Karthik Kulkarni, gave the participants a briefing about the Sun Microsystems Inc., and also highlighted the benefits of joining OSUM community and asked the participants to join the community and enjoy the various benefits. The participants were also made aware of and given the information about the JavaFX Coding Challenge being conducted by Sun Microsystems Inc.

The workshop also included a contest wherein the participants had to make use of the knowledge they gained from the workshop, apply it and create an application on their own as either a team of two or individually and submit the application within 36 hours. The response here too was good enough, we received a number of applications among which only one team was chosen to be the best and was given the prize.

Finally, the workshop was successful, the participants were satisfied and gave a positive response by joining the OSUM community as well.

Special thanks to Vishwanath Patil sir, Karthik Kulkarni and the various committee members of BVBCET who helped us make the event a successful one.
