All the November presentations have now been finally scheduled. But as you know, we're a bit late regarding advertising (damn that Murphy and his law), so we need your help on this one! Please spread the word about these presentations as much as possible - the posters will be up next week along with other announcements in various forms.

The presentations done by our new ambassador, Martin, and I will be held every Thursday (except one) from 13:15-14:00 in the seminar room in the Maersk building at the university as marked on the map below.

The two external lecturers will probably need more room than us. So we've booked U47 for Thorbiörn Fritzons talk about Java 7 (please note that we are not 100% sure about this talk, so keep watching this blog!). U47 is marked on the university map below.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the talk from Jørgen Olsen about Solaris. This talk will be held at the Technical Faculty (the area formerly known as Teknikum) on Niels Bohrs Allé in D116. D116 is on the first floor in the building marked below.

The poster with all the information about time and place may be found here. We encourage you to pass this on to fellow students or even co-workers, family etc. - everybody's welcome!

See you there!

It has been far too long since my last presentation - actually almost four months. But this is about to change! Today I'm announcing not just one new presentation, but six! So get your calendar out and start marking the dates :-)

Now, there's a difference from last years presentations. One difference is that I have been working hard on getting some really interesting speakers to stop by SDU and I must say (humbly, of course) that I've succeeded. I have managed to get the following two guest speakers:

  • Thorbiörn Fritzon (Sweden)
Thorbiörn is a Java architect for Sun Microsystems with more than a decade of experience in software development, mostly in distributed systems. He will be talking about New features in Java 7 which will be very interesting to hear about.

  • Jørgen Olsen
Jørgen is a senior consultant at Sun Microsystems in Denmark. He has more than 35 years of IT experience of which more than 10 years is with Solaris. In other words: He knows everything there is to know about Solaris! Jørgen will be doing a half day seminar called Solaris for Linux freaks which will be very interesting as well (not just for Linux freaks).

The other difference is that I am no longer the only ambassador at SDU! I am very happy to announce that we have hired another ambassador, Martin Mærsk-Møller. He will be working with me the rest of the year and keep doing presentations when I finish. He will be doing the presentations with me, so you'll get a chance to meet him there.

So, here's the schedule for November 2007:

  • Thursday 8/11
    Introduction to Solaris

  • Thursday 15/11
    Solaris DTrace

  • Friday 16/11
    What's coming in Java 7
    Guest lecturer: Thorbiörn Fritzon (S)

  • Thursday 22/11
    Solaris for Linux freaks
    Guest lecturer: Jørgen Olsen (DK)

  • Thursday 22/11
Scripting Graphical Interfaces with Java FX

  • Thursday 29/11
Building Mobile Games Visually Using Netbeans 6.0
Please note that this is the initial plan, so the topics may change.

Please pass this information on to all people (students or not) that might be interested! As always, there will be drinks at the presentations.
See you there...

So, here are the pictures taken at presentation #1: NetBeans GUI Builder & Collaboration Demo! I intentionally kept the pictures at their original size, so I'll apologize in advance to the bandwidth impaired... (*update* resized the pictures to keep everybody happy)
