Today we're putting some final touches on the OpenSolaris 1st anniversary celebration activities. It's amazing to be in a community process, where every decision is made cooperatively--every suggestion considered and valued.
When I joined the group over a year ago, I'm not sure I was totally comfortable with "transparency". Afterall, I'd just come from a marketing function where "need to know" was an absolute necessity. Information management was of the utmost importance. And it took them 20 + years to beat into me that you don't show your hand all the time in business and you don't have to be talking all the time to do your job!
I like transparency. I don't know how to do it the other way anymore.
And folks are getting it. Hat's OFF! to Ray Gans, Rich Sands, Tom Marble--they were VERY transparent in their processes for getting the new Java Distributors License into play. Watch this space for more from the OpenSPARC team. Watch this space for all Sun's open source iniatives--old friends and new, all in the open. All transparent
They are all at the heart of the Sun's open source community.
