I finally got around to digging a few photos of my Rwandan trip out of my digital camera... time to share a few here.
One of the highlights.. one of the more memorable people I met was Ian one of the children who lived nextdoor. I have no idea how old he is... I think about 6 years old. He is deaf, and has been deaf since he was about 9 months old (illness caused the deafness) so communication was a challenge... especially since he communicates in his own invented sign language. Ian would come hang out in my apartment almost every day. Often he would bring over friends, and get a game of football going, or play games on my palmtop computer. His absolute favorite though was to take photos of everything and everyone.

We went to the street market quite a few times, and we usually ended up with an entourage of children following us around as we shopped for stuff. This is from one of the trips to the Kicukiro Market... a friend of mine and some of our little tribe

The flowers just in the yard around the house I stayed in were amazing. I took a couple photos of them. These tiny purple flowers were everywhere...

The pink ones had a really interesting spiral shape to them.

and this one was nice too...

A friend of mine made a funny observation about African flora and
fauna... everything in Africa, particularly insects, seems to be giant
this and giant that. Well, one morning I woke up
and wandered into my bathroom only to discover I had a new friend camped out on the
tiles. I am not sure what kind of cockroach this is, but it was
HUGE... unfortunately I didn't put anything into the photo as a size
reference. A rough estimate... it was about 6 or 8 cm long.

OK, that's enough photos for now.
I have been to Rwanda too, when i went to visit my sister Marie and her boyfriend Gunta, it is a nice place.

Yes, it is a nice place... I really miss places like Rwanda and Kenya. It always feels like home to me when I'm there.
