Done by Sun

Done by (right to left) Volkmar, Wolfgang, Rolf, Horst and our special guest Corry from Oracle (both not on the picture) and myself. It was a great team for one day only, because normally we work in different departments.

The feedback we received was overwhelming positive. Parents asked why we spend our weekend building the sunshield. The habit to set up and participate in a volunteer day is not so common in Germany. One child excitedly said "now we have a summer holiday home". Summer can come now, and with the stable construction we made, many more summers. Does it work? Today 3 days later, when the concrete had dried a test showed: it does. It keeps off the majority of rain, allows the morning sun to dry the sand, lets air circulate beneath and through it

There are already new ideas like putting a hammock in the construction...

WE DID IT!

Saturday was a great day. We start at 9 o'clock in the morning. Horst arrived first - after an one hour drive. We shortly discussed the plan, look at the wood, srews and other material that was waiting to be converted in our source of shade. Rolf, Wolfgang and Volkmar showed up quickly and we started with the fundaments. More coming soon.

Rainbow

Sun and rain make a rainbow. What we have is rain. It is pretty cold 2 C or 35 F wet and cloudy. Corry promised to prepare a hot "Chili con carne" and at least the beer won´t get warm.

Countdown to Ignition

24 hours to ignition of our project and I have this "Power of Sun" song in my head. After 2 sunny days we expect a cloudy and maybe rainy day for tomorrow. But anyway, we know where we start, we have the people, the tools, the material and we have a plan!

One thing we didn´t get in time are the volunteer team T-Shirts. So if you find an old Solaris 10, Dot.Com or Project Blackbox shirt, take it with you.

Shopping Tour

Real Service

We did the shopping tour yesterday, to get the material for Saturday. When we entered the Do-It Yourself Max-Bahr I was really surprised about the compentent sales guy who served us. This man was a big help to get all the staff. It will hopefully be delivered Friday afternoon

Volunteer Week Project Source of Shade for daycare facility

The Kinderhaus Pfefferminzkamp in Hamburg Germany is a daycare facility for children aged 3 to 6 years. The sand playground was partly covered by an awning. Strong winterstorms destroyed this source of shade. As a project in Sun´s Volunteer Week we want to build a stable woodbased source of shade so the kids are protected this summer and able to play outdoor.

At the moment we are 7 Volunteers. We have a least a plan, below you find a toollist

Please commit what tools you will bring with next Saturday.
- cordless electric screwdriver
- scoop
- spade
- wood saw
- fret saw
- work gloves
- drilling maschine
- set of ring spanner
- fun...
- anything missing?
