Guess who's the newest official Sun Ray @ home card carrier? Yup! That's me. Now, I'm not in the Sun Ray Big Leaguers Club yet, like Mary, the Sun Ray Queen or Thin Guy, the Sun Ray King, but I couldn't be happier not having to worry about patching & maintaining my system..."The network is the computor".

For those who don't know what a Sun Ray is, my simplified description is a Sun Ray is to the internet as a cable box is to cable television. Instead of using a traditional PC, users connect to their computer programs/internet via the Sun Ray AND can stop what they are doing (email, document creation, etc.) and pick up exactly where they left off on any other Sun Ray on their network (even if it's on the other side of the planet). Mary demonstrates it's amazing portablility here.

I did have to give up the Ultra 20 to Will T. tho'. It'll be happier with him...like a stallion moving from the city to the country. ;-)

And kudos to the Sun folks who setup the Sun Ray @ home program. When the giant box was delivered to the Skrocki abode, it had everything I needed to hit the ground running:
  • Linksys router
  • Cisco router
  • Surge protector
  • KVM switch (a cable gizmo that allows you to connect two systems to a single monitor, keyboard, mouse)
  • Network cables
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Giant placemat-like, dummy-proof instruction sheet

The actual setup process took <30 mins...it would have been shorter if I didn't have to re-network three other personal systems used by the family and if I my CCME (Chief Cord Maintenance Manager) wasn't screwing around the entire time.

Comments:

Wow, the CCME got promoted to a CCMM?! Congrats to the CCMM! And perhaps it wasn't screwing around, it was trying to plot the most efficent way for the cords to be setup! As a side note, that is a beautiful cat.

Cripes...no she's still a CCME. Promotion to CCMM would require gourmet tuna and that's just not in the cord mgt org budget.

She is a beauty tho' and has a terrific personality. She runs to greet people at the door & expresses excitement when family comes home like a dog would...and not just because she has selfish cat needs that must be met. :-)

You are a big leaguer, you're among a few Sun folks that spell Sun Ray correctly.

We'll talk about your spelling of computer later, unless that's a Arnold joke, how he pronouces tumor. "Sun Ray, it's not a computor". :)

Hey, I spelled it correctly in the 2nd paragraph, but you did inspire me to open the following CR: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/roller/browse/ROL-1185 :-)

I'm confused, why was a Linksys (a Cisco product devision) router as well as a Cisco router needed?
