Not so, per the following comment left on my original Blackle post:
" If you use LCD monitor, you'll end up wasting more energy by using Blackle. Not to mention that you'll stress your eyes and suffer from eye problems. Blackle will save energy only for CRT displays (which . On an LCD monitor, it will waste more energy than normal Google. Almost all the modern monitors are LCD monitors, as CRT monitors are obsolete. The so-called "Save Energy" seems to be a ploy by Blackle to attract more traffic to their site, as they earn money for every search made on their site."

Blackle's energy saving approach has some merit, but there are flaws in the practical application as many have pointed out.
I am proposing something different to help reduce display power consumption, spend less time using the monitor while running Google searches. How? Continue reading.
I have setup several Google Custom Search Engines on a website using Google Topic driven search technology and a method that links multiple search engines giving me the ability to combine everything into one search engine.
My approach is to use Google topics and categories in my Google Custom Search Engines to group search results. Once you enter an initial search string in the search box, the topics are displayed below the search box. When you select a topic the search combines the previous search string with the search string I have placed inside the topic.
It works quite well and reduces the time you spend running searches.
I have three main searches to choose from. The Plasma TV Custom Search makes extensive use of topics.
Plasma TV Custom Search
Music Custom Search
Google Search
Take a look and let me know what you think.

I prefer Greenle.info
The idea is simple : do your search in green, it will remember you that nature is important. Simple.

Why doesnt have a images search?
Posted by Tom on September 12, 2007 at 06:58 AM MDT #
It doesn't have image search because Adsense for search doesn't support image searches.
My daughter has started using http://www.pinkle.net because she likes the very Pink color scheme. Personally I'm fine with plain white google.

Let's remember that the Internet itself is said to consume about 868 billion kWh (kilowatt hours) of electricity per year to run the Internet, associated PCs, routing infrastructure, and phone networks.” (http://uclue.com/index.php?xq=724.)
But companies are stepping forward with solutions to reduce the energy use of the Internet. Solar Energy Host (http://www.solarenergyhost.com) for example, is hosting websites using 100% solar energy.

hows about you all just let blackle do what it does.
what would you do to bring attention to your site.
So it provided a little false info. at least it looks good. They went out there and did something different, thats all it accounts for.
As for the Pinkle Website. Its ugly as. As is the Greyle site.
Honeslty. Dont discriminate it. If you like it, Use it.
If you Dont like it, then dont use it. Cant get any simpler.
People do things for a reason, let them be happy with their achievement, even if you dont agree.
And as for the statement about it causing eye problems, im uhh pretty sure the bright white site is a bit more harsh.
Whatever. Shut up and play nice

I'm using at the moment http://www.blackoogle.us , which is similar to blackle but offers a lot more functionality like image search, youtube search, mail access, etc. And looks nicer too, give it a try!
usa:

I use http://www.keepglobe.com which is similar to greenle but it saves more energy. It is hosted on a server that is powered by wind and sun energy. Black search engines do not save energy as they claim and also my eyes twitch after seeing that black background.
