Running Mobility Pack on Solaris
|
NetBeans
|
There is nice article from Mark Phalan describing how to run NetBeans + Mobility Pack on Solaris.
I haven't tried it yet. Anyway, I've already seen the Mobility Pack running in the brandZ on Solaris on Karol's machine in the office. Actually, he's using this configuration for daily development of the Mobility Pack.
The article can help the Solaris developers to start with the java me development. It's only workaround. I hope that a new emulator (SDK) for solaris will appear soon. (There are old WTKs for Solaris but I meant something new...)

CDC Pack 5.5 is released
|
NetBeans
|
"I'm sick and tired". Lying in my bed with high temperature and angina. Outside it's snowing like crazy. I'm glad that I parked my car in a garage. Otherwise I wouldn't find it anymore under the snow. It seems that the weather changed to winter in Prague finally. The forecast is -18 for Friday night. The temperature changed almost 30 degrees (last Saturday it was around +12 in Prague). I'm talking in Celsius, of course
Enough of the bad news. It's time for something positive...
We released final version of NetBeans Mobility Pack for CDC 5.5. Finally.
I have to say some things about the release.
- (+) - it works out-of-box. Install it, create new project and you can create an application for CDC platform.
- (-) - the bundled CDC platform (Sun Java Toolkit 1.0 for Connected Device Configuration) supports only a AGUI optional package. You will not find the AGUI on any real phone. (The SavaJe is gone).
- (+) - we do have nice support for a Ricoh/J platform. Most of you will never see the SDK (you have to pay for it). Maybe you'll see at least the result of this support. Applications in your Ricoh printer created with the Mobility Pack for CDC.
We also have a new toy from Ricoh. It's pity that we hadn't received it earlier. Color printer. I hope that Petr will allow me to deploy an application to it. Or to print a page at least
- (-) - this is the first and also the last final version of the CDC Pack. The both packs will be merged in Milestone 7.

Mobility Milestone 6 - Visual Designer 2
|
NetBeans
|
The developers of Mobility Pack Visual Designer decided to rewrite the incredible Visual Designer again. You can try the new version in current Milestone 6. The reasons for this rewrite were probably - wrong design of the "old" designer, closed model of custom components, new graph library. I'm only guessing here.
In the Milestone 6, you can find both designers - old one and new one - because the upgrade of midlet from old VD to new one wasn't implemented yet. It will be backward compatible later - you will open the old design in new one but not in opposite way.
To start with the new visual designer, create "New | Visual Design" or "New | Visual MIDlet". After Finish the new visual design will appear. Unfortunately, there is a bug. It will open document in Source View not in the flow view. Switch to the flow design with the view buttons. Enjoy the new look, new functionality. You can find more details at designer wiki pages.

5 Things You Probably Don't Know...
|
Personal
|
I was wondering what means the blog entries "5 Things You Probably Don't Know...". I never(almost) reply or continue in chain messages that I receive by email.
This chain blob message is different. I have been tagged by Roumen. Everybody will know if I'll stop the chain. Therefore 5 things that you definitely haven't known about me.
- I jumped by parachute (two times). It was amazing experience.
- I had spent one year in the Czech army before the mandatory military service in Czech Republic was canceled in 2004. From 2005 the army consist of professional soldiers only.
-
- My son has blue eyes.
- bye, bye my reputation. I finished my final exams on the second try. I failed in the first try because I didn't finish the diploma work on time (I started in new job instead).
- I'd like to drive a Porsche 911 Carrera S. I like the car. Maybe I'll buy it sometimes...
Who will I tag? Suchys (he has lot of things to share...), jeddi, Marian (I'm quite interested if the chain will continue to Czech or Slovak Republic), Hikmond, and .JARa.

[TIP] Add Attribute to JAD/Manifest
|
TIP
|
When you need to add a new attribute to your JAD or manifest file you can set it up in project properties of a project in NetBeans Mobility Pack.
Open "File | YourProject Properties" (or right clict to project and choose "Properties". Then select "Application Descriptor | Attributes". You can add new attributes or edit/remove the existing ones. You can specify whether your attributes will appear in JAD or Manifest (or in both).
You can define different set of attributes for different configurations.
