Landscape of Management Standards
Any time you are exploring a new area its good to have a landscape of the territory. I have recently been making extensive use of Google Earth (now that it works on a Mac) to find my way around when I travel.
For the past year I have been a co-chair for a cross Standards Development Organization (SDO) group called SCRM (pronounced Scrum as in Rugby). It's full name is Standards Development Organizations Collaboration on Networked Resources Management and it has had good participation from representatives of GGF, SNIA, DMTF, TMF, OASIS, ITU-T, W3C and the IETF.
The major accomplishment we announced this month is the creation of a collaborative wiki site at: http://www.ggf.org/scrm-wiki
There you will find the equivalent of Google Earth for the landscape of resource management standards. No attempt is being made to align these efforts at this point through this organization, however, we feel that the visibility of what is being created will help the individual organizations better align their work as a result. If you know of an organization that should be added, please send them to the site where there are instructions on how to become a contributor. Each of the organizations has committed to keeping this information up to date. That is the beauty of doing this through a wiki. If only Google Earth were as collaborative so I could correct its misrepresentation of where my house is...
