A Week of Solaris Un-Announcements
A big week for product accouncements at Sun, none of them about Solaris but all related to Solaris.
Starting with the developer, today we announced Sun Studio 12, one of the world's best Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) for Solaris (and now Linux too). Sun Studio 12 has a number of new features focused on multithreaded applications, not just for our own Niagara CPU but also for the latest AMD and Intel processors.
So now that we have one of the world's best IDEs for Solaris, what's next? On Wednesday, Sun will introduce the most open and versatile enterprise blade platform. You can join the launch, live, in your web browser. But just like Sun Studio 12 supports multithreaded optimizations for Niagara, AMD, and Intel processors, you guessed it, our new blade platform supports Niagara, AMD, and Intel processors.
So what helps you get even better performance than Sun Studio 12 with our new blade platforms? Solaris, of course! So no pure Solaris announcements this month, although I do have a few planned for later in the month, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, if you are looking for more Solaris news, there is plenty going on over at OpenSolaris.org. And don't forget to register for Sun's HPC Consortium user group, immediately before the International Supercomputer Conference in Dresden Germany. If you like blades, Solaris, and HPC, you will definitely not want to miss this summer's HPC consortium.
