I'm happy to report that QFS now supports 256 nodes in a shared QFS configuration with version 4.6-03. HPC and general purpose shared file system users will benefit from the QFS scalability enhancements delivered in this release and qualification is now underway to support 512 nodes. In addition, this release adds support for:
  • Sony CSM-20S S-AIT library, the IBM LTO4 tape drive, and the Quantum DLT-S4 tape drive
  • Client support for Intel EM64T 64 bit architecture on Solaris 10 and Linux.

For clusters larger than 512 nodes, Sun's Lustre File System scales to support the largest supercomputers in the world. Lustre support for Solaris Object Storage Servers is going into beta test later this year and with the acquisition of assets of Cluster File Systems now complete we are finalizing plans for a full Solaris implementation. Of course just like QFS has for many years been supported by Sun on Solaris and Linux systems from Sun, IBM, Dell, HP, and others, besides adding Solaris support, we plan to continue Lustre support for Linux on Sun and 3rd party systems. Of course if you are not the DIY type, you can purchase a turnkey Lustre config with our Sun Customer Ready Scalable Storage Cluster.

And not that I haven't told them personally, but let me add that I am so happy to have Cluster File Systems CEO Peter Braam, Kevin, and the rest of the CFS gang now part of the Sun family. Welcome aboard!
