A lot of people often ask me what do center's like TACC do with a 60,000 processor supercomputer. Here is a great example of what the Sun Constellation System at TACC has been doing recently with 26,000 of its processor cores.

Recently, NOAA has been utilizing the Sun Constellation System to forecast Hurricane Ike's path and intensity. To see examples of the work, visit NOAA's web site and click on the "10m wind" check mark item corresponding in the first column titled: "All times (loop)" to see a nice animation.

Other parameters of the hurricane's characteristics can be viewed from this website as well.
