I am in South Carolina today for the ribbon cutting of the
Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research. Clemson University, Sun, along with a host of world class companies like
BMW will work together at the center helping create one of the premier automotive and motorsports research and educational facility in the world. The center has already installed a powerful HPC cluster containing both SPARC Enterprise servers and AMD Opteron powered Sun Fire x64 servers running Solaris. So if Solaris can help BMW design their next car, why not use Solaris to run your next car? Through the OpenSolaris community, work is already underway to port Solaris to embedded
ARM processors which opens up a whole new field of application areas for Solaris.
