Project Sun SPOT on Project Blackbox

Innovation never dies at SunLabs. The Sun SPOT team is working towards a full featured monitoring system for Project Blackbox. Such a combination of technology allows owners of a Blackbox to monitor:

  • Location of their datacenter (thef management)
  • Internal temperature
  • Internal humidity
  • When it as opened (access management)
  • Overall vibrations
  • etc

All of this can be remotely monitored by having the Sun SPOTs broadcast the information over a cell network or even using satellite.

It is now official, the SONIA AUV Tech Session has been officially accepted at JavaOne!

SONIA is an undergrad engineering project devoted to the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV). An AUV is a submersible vehicle entirely controlled by artificial intelligence. It uses data acquired by various sensors to properly interact and navigate in a real world underwater environments. The vehicle's AI and control system is entirely designed using JavaSE technologies.

Felix Pageau, team leader, and myself, software team leader will be presenting the session. The session will concentrate on how and why we use Java for robotics applications. It will also cover our work methodologies and our platform's mechanical, electrical and especially software design.
