I've been reinstalling Mac OS X on my MacMini (I wanted a case sensitive file system), and have started to add all the little things a Mac OS X user can't live without.
Since I'm a newbie on Mac OS X, I asked my good friend J, who is a long time addict, for advice. I ended up with a long list :)
Here's the list of stuff I've added:
Payware:
- Parallels
So I can run Solaris inside Mac OS X - Popcorn
For converting DVD movies to my PSP - Little Snitch
Catch the programs who phone home
- Growl
A neat notification system - Skype
Keeping in touch with my friends - Adium
Jabber client - TinkerTool
Gives you access to additional preference settings - StuffIt expander
For all your unpacking needs - NeoOffice
OpenOffice for Mac OS X - NetBeans
Java (plus C/C++) development - KisMAC
To map out WiFi networks - Firefox
Can't live without it! - Thunderbird
The second best mail client (after Mulberry) - DB Visualizer
For poking around in your databases - Colloquy
IRC client - GeekTools
To view log files - MenuMeters
To display system info in the menu bar - ClearDock
Making the dock background transparent
If you think I've missed something I really can't live without, please let me know :)
