three things to talk to you guys about today:

1. countdown... 17 days until i get on a plane and head to china for SunNetwork Shanghai. i haven't sent in my passport to get my visa yet so i need to get on that. but here's what you need to do... watch this space for live* coverage of the conference. that's right, my friends, i'll be your eyes and ears on the ground, giving you the skinny on what's going on at the "Asian debut of the singular must-attend event for IT professionals."  ... there are 100+ sessions, 130+ demos on the Pavillion floor and a bunch of keynotes from techno and biz celebs to keep me busy. i'll work the angles to see if i can't get some exclusive preview for you. oh, and i'm covering the Gosling keynote for java.sun.com, so you can watch for that too, if you like.

2. chat it up... two hot chats you want to keep on your radar:

3. Mother's day... so i'm a mother of three kids under the age of 5. Mother's day was awesome. so you know how in high school physics you learned that you can't know both the position and the energy of an electron at the same time (i actually don't remember what the two things are... i think position is right but don't think energy is... aren't all electrons negative?.. anyway), well, if you're a mother you will never have a clean house, a hot meal prepared for your family, clean kids, no mountain of unfolded laundry and be caught up at work all at the same time. i think it's actually possible to have two of those things at the same time, though i've never achieved that state of matter. but you can't have more than two. and the sooner you resign yourself to that fate the happier you'll be. see, being a mother has given me all kinds of perspective. and lucky you, you get to hear about it for free. motherhood has also altered my physiology... i now have a bionic nose... no kidding, i really do. it's changed me in other ways too, but i'll save those for another day.

that's the story from me.

mary

p.s. here's a picture of my mother's day present. it was made in art class by my oldest kid. any clues into what it might be and what i'm supposed to do with it would be appreciated.
