Had a great breakfast with Miko this morning. (Breakfast at W is really good; not as expensive as you might think. I had pancakes. Suburb!)

Love that guy.

Miko, as you old timers know, is an early Java guy and is personally responsible for logging a gazillion miles evangelizing the Java platform in the early, early days. We spent some time talking about the past... reminiscing... but mostly we were focused on the future... my kids' future, actually.

Anyway... it was really nice...

Walking over to Moscone, a guard stopped us and said: (swear this is true; ask Miko if you don't believe me.)

"Excuse me miss. Once they let beautiful women inside, they're not allowed to come back out."

and he was talking to me! made me smile.

we had to jam... running late... I had to say goodbye to Miko at the top of the escalators ...

so i could get my badge (he already had his)...

long line... found Bauhaus (techno celeb, personal friend) standing in it... we chatted a bit...

Then Laura Ramsey, who's looking oh-so-gorgeous, comes over with an extra badge... Chris Atwood... "you wanna be Chris Atwood?"

I'm all over that... don't have to stand in line... won't miss a moment of the keynote...

Go Laura, Go Laura, Go Laura!

work it girl.

gotta go... keynotes in progress...

real quick because i'm late for breakfast with Miko and he's gonna kill me...

had to run over to the marriot to pick up a box and bring it back to my hotel...

look who i run into on the streets of san francisco.

java is everywhere!

Here's a quick look-see into my schedule for tomorrow... just highlights... in case you're looking for me, here's where you'll find me:

7:30: W hotel; Breakfast with Miko
(If I were eligible for the Coding Challenge, I'd be doing that first to get the t-shirt and messenger bag; but regrettably I'm not eligible and it has nothing to do with the fact that I don't know how to code.)
8:30: General Session keynotes. (You'll recall MaryMaryQuiteContary readers already know what Graham is going to talk about.)
12:00: I'll be at the Apple store because I expect something to happen there.
1:00: Borland keynote. Look for George
2:15: Calvin Austin's session (Gateway 102/103 session 1952)
5:00: I'll be outside Moscone because I expect something to happen there.
5:00: I'll also be at the Inner Circle Roundtable at the Argent hotel. Double-booked.
6:30:  Blogger party at Thirsty Bear
After the blogger party: Dinner with Martin Hardee
11:30 p.m.: Danny Malks' BOF (Patterns in Practice, J2EE Patterns)

first day of JavaOne is always my favorite. Kind of like how morning is the best part of Christmas.

Jonathan Schwartz is going to start blogging, according to scoop delivered by Jim Grisanzio.

I know I've said it before but this time I mean it:  I'm going to spell check. And capitalize.

Can't really do much about the fact that we've got nothing interesting technically to talk about in this space. Or even anything technically interesting. But at least I can deliver clean copy, now that the big boss is watching.

;-)

I just landed in San Francisco about an hour ago and I've got a couple things to tell you before I go to bed and get some rest for tomorrow.
Was playing with my new digital camera in the security line and got the guy behind me to take a picture.

That's me at the airport on the way to JavaOne.

And then I get on the plane, and what do I see but some guy sitting across the aisle from me with a JavaOne Alumni shirt on!  That's my opening. (You know how John Gage always tells everybody not to be shy... yeah, well he doesn't have to worry about me.) What are the odds of that -- right across the aisle from me!

Turns out he's Andrew Yang. He's giving a talk on security on Wednesday. I tried quickly looking for the details of his session so I could plug it here... but couldn't easily find it and it's late. So you'll forgive me if I just get you all the details on that tomorrow.

You know, it's officially the first day of JavaOne right this very minute!!

It's going to be a good week.
