Explicitly and without apology a marketing vehicle MaryMaryQuiteContrary

So we all know how my life changed forever when I got a Sun Ray delivered to my doorstep.

You'll recall I had this puppy up and running, with secure, authenticated access to my company's internal network in under 15 mins. And this included unpack-it-out-of-the-box-the-Fed-Ex-guy-brought-me time...

(btw I am not what you'd call "technical.")

I am a marketing professional. I am a regular employee, working full time from an office which is located inside my house. I live approximately 2,846.22 miles (source:mapquest) from Sun's headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley.

I just happen to live in another timezone than my boss.

And pretty much everybody in my group, with some notable exceptions.

ok. now we're transitioning to a personal update. but hang in here with me and you'll see how this all comes together in a masterfully woven story...  (because I think i'm a pretty good storyteller -- a syndicated columnist in the rough...a working mother's answer to Dave Barry. So all you influential publishing types... talk me up, would you? and in exchange i'll see what i can do to hook you up with some free stuff. no promises.)

So Sweet Jazmin came to visit! She's a friend from work. I have known Sweet Jazmin for nearly a decade. She's awesome. She came for a long weekend. I took a couple days off to show her the sights. We went places. We had fun.

So Sweet Jazmin had to do a little work while she was out here. She's one of your "important" people. She gets to know all kinds of stuff that us "regular" people don't get to know. She has access to all kinds of applications that frankly I don't even know about. And she needed to pop in and do a little work while she was out here.

Pause button: remember: I'm Sun Ray Girl.

my badge in the sun ray

(can you guess what comes next?)

Jazmin is Sun Ray girl2!!!!

She sticks in her badge.

(Every Sun employee has a badge -- an identification card that has your name, picture and a Java Card chip on it.) She inputs in her secret password (i averted my gaze for that part).

And viola! she's up and running!

She's got secure, authenticated access to her desktop, her data,  her applications.

do you even get how huge this is, people?

the network is the computer.

do you get it?

anyway, it was lots of fun for me to see this happen.

And so, I'd like to extend an open invitation to any Sun employee who happens to be in my neighborhood..... if you want to use my Sun Ray you can drop by. bring your badge. I got first dibs though. So you might have to wait for me to finish doing what I'm doing. But you're welcome to stop by.

p.s. i'm going to be traveling a lot in the next couple weeks; so you might want to call first to make sure i'll be here. x81504. ;-)
