It's my great pleasure to introduce you to the SUPREME Diva(s)!

Meet Marandace.

(Who've got a reputation for being GSE Divas but don't tell anyone you heard that here.)

They are the envy of the regular rank-and-file (or at least this member of the regular rank-and-file).

They get to go to CEC 2006.

For the uninitiated, this is where 3,000 celebrated Sun employee techno celebs gather for a week of training and Techfesting.

It has not escaped me that the Techfest is happening in October and you know how techno celebs these days go nuts w/the mash-ups.

So needless to say I'm especially bummed to be missing out on all this.

Especially given that I spent the entirety of my single days hanging out by the keg and waiting for some smart, silent type to talk to me. But that's a whole different story. :-)

For the record: one did. 12 years of matrimony and three kids later, I no longer have to stand by the keg.

(do I make you laugh?)

Back to the GSE Divas. I am living vicariously through them this week.

And every once in a while... when the music is building just right... I can feel the Diva in me bubbling up.... and I just remember what I told you the day I set you free...

<feel free to complete my thought>

p.s. You should see me when I've got a microphone and I've blowed dry my hair and I totally work myself into a Diva creshendo. It's pretty good. But it's nothing close to Marandace. :-)

p.p.s. I presented to Sun's CMO today. It was the first time in my life. Nearly 10 years at Sun -- the entire time in Marketing -- and this was the first time I presented to the CMO. I know that seems crazy and you're thinking how could that be. But somehow it is. Today was the first time. I was nervous going into it. I had a lot to communicate and not a lot of time. It went well. I'm jazzed. He said my stuff was OK. So I'm totally jazzed. So much excitement. All in one day. I've got to watch it... my back is still sore from the bust-a-move growth happy dance I did not so long ago. Twice.

Miko Matsumura is an old friend. I met him on my first day on the job at Sun -- nearly 10 years ago.

He had long hair.

And his job title was Java Evangelist.

And (being new to the West coast), I didn't know it was possible to be an Evangelist and to never have to go to church.

Come to think of it, I didn't actually know a lot of boys with long hair either. :-)

So he made a pretty significant impression on me.

Miko traveled the globe converting the Java faithful back in the early, early, early days.

He's an incredibly thoughtful, insightful and generous person.

It was an absolute delight to get to hang with him in the early morning here in the organic eatery of the Sun WFH iWork office in Hometown, USA. (My house. :-)

Now he's got short hair, a wife and child. And a great big fat acquisition agreement.

:-)

And he's still an incredibly thoughtful, insightful and generous person.

As well as a steadfast friend.

His friendship is the bread of the heart.

(And that's saying something because I'm a carbs girl.)

:-)

p.s. way back when... back in the day... Miko told me that one day Java technology will be everywhere. "It will be like air," I vividly remember him saying. "It will be everywhere."
