I miss Dr. Josh and Dr. Neal so much it hurts. It literally hurts.

It's been 25 weeks since we've had a puzzler. (not that we're counting, or anything.)

I've been flying solo for what seems like forever  It's been so long that even God is tired of being my co-pilot. (I think it's because I talk so much.)

Even CrazyBob has forgotten about me. (so much for promises not to forget the little people.)

So here's what we're going to do. ...

Haiku.

I'll give

me in the t-shirt

Java t-shirt(s) to the author(s) of a Haiku that captures the ache and despair that one has to cope with when they've been abandoned for more than 25 weeks (not that anybody's counting).

Five t-shirts; five winners; totally free; postage included.

Just to remind you:
  • Haiku is only three lines.
  • The first line is five syllables.
  • The second line is seven syllables.
  • The last line is back to five syllables.
  • No rhyming is required.
Here's one:

Don't your eyeballs hurt?
You think so fast that you must
Get dizzy a lot.

here's another one:

I mourn the time I
Chose to watch TV instead
Of reading a book.

(That's actually not mine. Somebody else wrote that one -- sort of; the first one's mine though.)

So even though neither of these Haikus deal with the bitter pain of abandonment, I would have awarded prizes to those because I like them. So we're actually not going to get "technical" about enforcing the rules on this one. (not that we ever do, really.)

Enter to win by posting a comment to this blog entry containing your Haiku.

And please feel free to go ahead and pre-order Java Puzzlers. I find that does wonders when it comes to lifting the spirits, actually.

:-)

bon weekend, people!

bon Memorial Day weekend!

Once I stop to count
The weeks I have spent alone
Then love can find me.

Like all things in life. If you can believe in it, it can become true. :)

Hey!

My second phrase here,
is just another haiku.
Damn! So is this one!

Crappy birthday to me :)

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your Appreciation. Here is My HAIKU.

Kitchen appliance
Quickly heeds my anxious prayers
Toast pressed to my cheek

A slice of calmness
In mankind's world of bloodshed
Spread some marmalade

Consume nirvana
God is not to be eaten
But toast will suffice

Spirit channeling
Through my toasted breakfast treat
Elvis on my plate

Ritualistic
A genesis of breakfast
Immaculate toast

Angry toastless man
Malfunctioning appliance
Senseless killing spree

Head hung in despair
Morning offering rises
I thank my toaster

Whole-grain metaphor
Anguish soon will dissipate
A bread transfigured

Toast in pitch black room
With a beautiful painting
Valuable toast

Intensely focused
I anticipate my toast
Somewhere a dog barks

Proudly I preside
Nineteen toasters hum in sync
A kitchen aflame

Summer in New York
Children frying sidewalk eggs
Beside my French toast

Thirty-six croutons
Sewn together with great care
Spicy slice of toast

Chilled below zero
Superconducting breakfast
With sweet grape jelly

The warm chosen slice
His jealous untoasted friends
Waiting for their turn

Hours after breakfast
A lingering aroma
The ghost of a toast

Bakery arson
Twelve thousand slices of toast
A silver lining

Willingly it meets
Its destiny at breakfast
Noble is my toast

Scrape into the sink
Constellation of black stars
A toast neglected

Loaf's fortunate heels
Spared from a toasty demise
United at last

The sounds of a waterfall
Bounce off young leaves.

Green fish eyes a soaking bug
Splash, rippling, it's gone

The Doctors are gone One week short of a half year. We really miss them.

Hours drop like rain
Time in still rippling pools
Drown in Stroh's Ice Cream

Code the geek output
Cursor flash awaiting keys
Puzzle tests NetBeans

Days to weeks to months
Down the trail for those now gone
"Is this seat taken?"

I was going to Haiku but read the others and they are too good

Abandoned I am!
My heart longs for the doctors!
And their Axe spray smell.

Oh the pain! The pain!
There is no Puzzler to boot!
Twenty-five weeks gone.

Without them I'm lost!
Crazy Bob: I long for you
Alone I'm so blue

Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo
Promise to make homemade stew
If I can see you

<u>Puzzler's Anguish</u>
Puzzles everywhere.
In books, on web, all around
Why none for Mary?

or...

<u>Puzzler Scorned</u>
No puzzles to share?
Fine! I'll go to JavaOne
And find some myself!

...which of course leads me to ask...

Given my past posts
How can you expect me to
Use only three lines? :)

Contest Over.

YOU GUYS ROCK!

you're so awesome. thank you so much for playing along. I sent Dr. Josh and Dr. Neal a representative sampling of your work.

Hopefully that will help get the puzzler to come back. No pressure or anything.

I'm going to pick the winners soon. Thanks again, so much, for playing along.
