Friday Free Stuff!

Happy Friday Everybody!

You know how I personally adore all Sun Certified Professionals?

OK. So in celebration of that fact, I'm going to be giving away a voucher for any Sun Educational Services Exam beginning with a 310 prefix. Value: in the $150 range. Take this exam and (pass it) and you can get Sun Certified. By doing so you'd earn my undying love and adorement. (More importantly)You get some serious credentials for the resume (aka C.V. for all you people out there w/advanced degrees).

I find that these kinds of accoutrements provide a great deal of "thud" factor when it comes to landing a hot job/getting a raise. You're on your own in negotiations there.

Did I mention you can now become certified for Tiger? (That's the Java Platform Standard Edition 5.0 for all the uninitiated out there.) Yup. You could use this voucher for that one if you wanted...

So we're about to get to the big contest* for the voucher in just a minute... but first you have to suffer through a day in the life of MaryMaryQuiteContary.

So you guys, I hate doing expenses. I just absolutely hate sorting through all the receipts to submit my expense reports.

So I bit the bullet. And I decided that I'm going to sort through all my receipts and do expenses this week.

So as I was doing that, I found this:

Can you even believe it?

It's a voucher! For an exam to get Sun Certified! It was in my great big pile of papers that I'm sorting through in order to do expenses. Can you even believe it?! I was all excited.

You see, we did go through that phase in the career where I wanted to be a Java Developer. (We're over it; I got tired of trying to stick myself into that round hole; I have other aspirations now.)

So I have a voucher for a certification exam that was never used!

And I'm going to give it away.

(Don't tell anybody; I don't want to get into any trouble.)

This voucher goes to the person who posts a comment to this blog entry with the most compelling/interesting/funny reason as to why they should get it. Unlike other Friday Free Stuff winners, this person won't have to wait months and months to receive their prize, because it doesn't require me going to the post office to mail it. I can just lick a stamp and off it goes. (except you don't actually have to lick stamps anymore but that's a little bit of a technicality).

So that's all you have to do for your chance at winning, people. And guess what else? We're going to award it tomorrow... right about this time!

The good news: This is the first comment, so for a time at least, my comment will be the leading contender. The bad news: Everybody will see where the bar is set. Okay, as much as I would like to get certified, rather than being merely certifiable, I have got to disagree about one thing. Anybody can be a Java developer, but to earn your undying love and adorement, now that's something special!

Not that I could actually use the Sun voucher, unless I can use it in Germany, but I thought that I would post more comments in order to make the competition more interesting...well what do you know, I decided to scroll up and saw that this voucher is valid worldwide. That is what happens when you do something immediately when someone tells you to...you said post a comment, thus I did. Ok, that is enough rambling from a bored student in your blog for one post.

oh yeah, forgot mention (plus this adds to the total post count from one person), please do not pick me, I do not have an interest in learning Java and would not use the certificate. You just happen to be the poor victim (of me) who found your weblog just by chance and is pressing the keys on the keyboard in a completely worthless order, just for the simple fact of doing it and adding to my overall post count.

Mary,
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to take this voucher off of your hands. I am but a poor college student trying to get my first steps into the corporate world. I'm sure that by being a Sun Certified Professional will make my job of entering the workforce will be much easier. I have stuck with Sun through the good and the bad. I love what your company is doing, and see only better things coming in the future. If there was a contest for biggest Sun fanatic, I think my name would appear high on the list. I get excited about listening to Scott and Jonathan’s conference calls if that is any indication of my dedication. :)

Hope you expensing report goes well. If you need any help I'm quite good with numbers.

Hey Mary remember me?<p /> You were thinking about sending along a big fluffy D for the little girl. Don't sweat it... she's still playing with the little rubber one.<p /> The main reason I MUST HAVE that coupon is because then I too will feel "the love" the other elite certified code cutters have found. The love which has been denied me for so long for lack of a simple piece of paper (and hundreds of hours of study). <p />Also, I could use the inspiration to finally sign up for CX-310-055, then CX-310-220 and then who knows... now that I've gotten the host of tyz to install Tomcat, maybe I can migrate some of my web-service projects from PHP... But this is so silly, how can any of this compare to the love?

I would like to be certified. Then I will have a work at Sun, take the place of Jonathan, impose NetBeans to the world and oblige Mary to leave the company because her gifts and travels cost a lot of money to the company ;-)

Of all the dabbling I've done with Java over the years, I will finally be able to set a defined measure of what I know with the certification. I have always seen the prices of certification tests the barrier to getting certified. Perhaps if a free voucher came with my Platinum Hardware Contracts, I would be more motivated to have my company renew it in a more timely fashion. Perhaps even a point or credit system(based on equipment covered) that comes with service contracts thats lets me build up sun education credits ???

Hi there, I wouldn't mind that voucher at all, believe me. But how about you make another one of these ice coffee things, put a stamp on it and send it over to Germany? :-) I REALLY could go for one of those now. By the way: what does it take to make Apple release Java 5 for Mac OS X 10.3.9?! I don't want to invest into Tiger... kind regards, Tobias
