Happy New Year, everybody!!!

Hope you had a great holiday.  Mine was awesome. Totally awesome. Highlights (in no particular order):
  • Holiday cards. I got a ton of them. I only have two favorites though...picture of my favorite christmas cardsOne is from the Morning Snowman. The other is from Vanessa -- my all-time favorite Brazilian Java developer who also happens to be a blog reader. I was THRILLED to get cards from both of these stellar individuals. Gonna treasure those. Might just put them up on the bulletin board so that I can look at them all year round.
  • My favorite Christmas present was a book that was given to me by the love-of-my-life, father of my children and most spectacular man to walk the face of the earth. It's non-fiction and it has the words "Good Girl's Guide" in it. Serious page-turner.
  • So we've got three kids ages 6 and under. It's our jobs to create magic for them at Christmas time. It worked. We all had so much fun.
  • I made a ton of New Year's resolutions. I've already broken one of them. But that's good because it sort of takes the pressure off.  The goal is to get to the summer solstice with at least six resolutions in tact.  btw... the New Year's resolutions I made on Thanksgiving (remember how I let you in on my little secret)... those are still going strong.
OK. So that concludes all the happy-go-lucky stuff.

On a serious note, the humanitarian crisis created by the tsunamis in southeast Asia weighs so heavy on me. I can't even fully comprehend the scope of this tragedy.

You guys, can I just tell you how proud I was when I logged on this morning and went to sun.com and I saw this banner...

donate to the Red Cross releif fund banner

It makes me really proud to work here.

Sun is matching contributions employees make to the relief efforts, btw. And that's nothing new. For as long as I can remember, Sun has been matching contributions that employees make to charitable organizations.

So your big take-aways today are:

1. Please consider giving to the humanitarian relief effort.
2. If your employer doesn't match your charitable donations, maybe it's time to think about getting one who does.

Comments:

The NY Tech Days conference bag (+pens, badges and pins) that you sent me turned up on Christmas Eve. Thank you very much for that and the other things you have sent.

I was going to put the package under the tree and wait for Christmas day. That idea lasted a full fifteen minutes before I couldn't help myself.

Ta very much, again.
