It's been ten years that I've been at Sun. Ten years since I was hired at Sun to do PR for the Java platform.
What an incredible ride.
I was going down memory lane as I drove to Santa Clara for the big launch event today.
When I got there I saw Christina...
... and that sent me down short term memory lane to Shanghai. If you ever go to Shanghai, you want to make sure you go with Christina. Ru-Pei-Pei and foot massages. We digress. We've got something even better than pearls to talk about today...
I ran into Damien. He is a lawyer. I know him from the JavaSoft days back in CUP01.
Well, he used to be a lawyer but now he's a big hot shot around here and so I like to think of him as an attorney.
:-)
I also saw Jean, who's in charge of marketing for the Java platform...
... and she used to be my boss. What a huge, huge day for everyone... especially all these guys who are part of the old gang, including...
Eric and Vineet. I love those guys.
I quick snuck outside to share my perspective on the announcements today...
... and as you may have noticed, I've gone completely mad with the digital video recorder and YouTube. :-)
But my favorite part of the day (from a memory lane perspective) was when I ran into Curtis later in the day in Menlo Park.
I was talking to him about how I vividly rember the day that he presented the business case for the editions of the platform -- Micro Edition, Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition. We were talking about that and he reminded me of Sizzle.
Rember Sizzle????
I'm going pre-JCP days on you here and showing my age.
Curtis, Jim Mitchell and Bill Lard worked over Christmas break on Sizzle. It must have ben in '96 or '97.
Can you believe that?
We've gone from Sizzle to today.
What a ride.
What an incredible ride.
I feel so blessed to have been a part of it.
What a great day.
What an incredibly great day.
:-)
