This week I'm working from my parents' house in Tuscaloosa, Alabama - home of the Crimson Tide and Dreamland Barbeque.
You can tell a lot about my mom, my family and my upbringing by reading the plaques, pictures, and knick-knacks displayed around the house. Here are some samples:
- "Happy Fall, Y'all!"
- "All the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today."
- "Delegate!"
- "You are special today"
- "We are his people and the sheep of his pastures. Psalm 100:3"
- "Never forget the impact you had on our lives Marie Parsons, UA Journalism Students, April 16, 2002"
- "Alle Augen warten auf Dich und Du gibst ihnen ihre Speise zu seiner Zeit. Du thust Deine Hand auf und erfuellest alles was lebet mit wohl gefallen. Amen." (All eyes wait upon you, O Lord, and you give them their meat in due season. You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living being.)
- "Robert E. Lee"
- "Mom means love/A mom is a treasure for always/I love you Mom"
- "Cantoria di Luca della Robbia, Firenze Museo dell'Opera del Duomo" (The Singers' Gallery by Luca della Robbia, Florence, Museum of the (works of the) Cathedral)
One thing I love about my parents' house is that Robert E. Lee and "Happy Fall Y'all" and a plaque commemorating my mom's contributions as a professor at the University of Alabama can co-exist peacefully.

"Cantoria di Luca della Robbia, Firenze Museo dell'Opera del Duomo"
A Cantoria is a "singers' gallery", a sort of choir loft.
Luca della Robbia was an Italian sculptor.
Firenze is Florence, Italy.
Museo dell'Opera del Duomo is the Museum of works of the cathedral.
So the translation is:
The Singers' Gallery by Luca della Robbia, Florence, Museum of the (works of the) Cathedral.
