Saturday night I was dyeing eggs with the kids in the kitchen when my husband walked in and said, "Why did you send me a blank text message just now?" I had been in the kitchen with the kids for over an hour so there was no way I had sent him the message. He said, "Where is your cell phone?" And when I think back on it now, I always hear him saying those words in slow motion, and all the background noise fades away and all I can hear are those words. "Where is your cell phone?"
Where was my cell phone?
Well apparently it was in the hands of a pickpocket who had picked it from my backpack at the store earlier that evening. Yes, I know, backpack purses are totally dangerous, and on top of that I keep the phone in an exterior pocket, which is almost like asking for somebody to steal it. But I have young kids and I need to keep my hands free at all times, and when my phone rings it needs to be easily accessible to me.
Which unfortunately means it's easily accessible to pickpockets too.
I'll go back to my 100-year-old Sony-Ericsson cell phone now, which will never get stolen and will never break and I will never accidentally throw it into the washing machine. And if a pickpocket ever steals that one he'll probably call me later and ask if I'll take the stupid thing back.

One more case. :-(
My cellphone was stolen three years ago. My wife cellphone was stolen three years ago. One of my friends was stolen three times in two years. As far as I know, almost of my friends have this experience like you.
I even read a true story. A woman who bought a second hand phone and surprised to see that was her phone which was stolen two week ago.

Oh, no! Not your new iPhone! I am so sorry. May be China should pass a law that makes selling second hand mobiles illegal, like they do bicycles.

How many times have I told you to wait for the inexorable march of technology to make things cheap :)
But yeah I can imagine - an iPhone stolen - that hurts! My sympathies!

oh no!! I would cry if my cranky motorola razor went missing, even though it doesn't work well. I would loose almost all my contacts! Hopefully you were a good iPhone-er and had everything backed up....
BIG BUMMER!!!!!!!!
ps. a friend of mine is on his 4th iPhone...the screen keeps getting lines across it in different places...and he is super careful with it, not like I am (meaning I typically drop mine and it pops apart 6 times a day).

Barb do you know me at all?! Of course I don't have any back-ups!
Shubho you always come up with these pearls of wisdom when it's too late for me! ;)
Forrest I love the story about the woman who bought her own phone back. My phone would become one dang expensive iPhone if I did it that way. :)
Pam I had no idea China had a law like that for bicycles. I wonder how you enforce a law like that...?

I've bought a black market bike before, so even if they did outlaw it, there's a way around it.
Don't fret over the phone, I was having major phone envy until I realized I can't text message on an iphone. That's probably why Buddy got a blank message. The new owner can't text on it either!!!
