The Downtown Diner

Beijing will host the Summer Olympics in 2008 and the city has a blistering case of Olympic Fever. There are billboards all over town with the "One World, One Dream" slogan and it feels like the five Olympic mascots, the "Friendlies", are following me everywhere I go. BTW here's some insider gossip that you will read only here - apparently Huan Huan, the little red one, is overshadowing his buddies as the most popular Friendly mascot.

This is a sign outside the school where my daughter plays soccer. It counts down the days until the Opening Ceremony, which by the way will be on August 8, 2008. You can guess what number is considered lucky in China!
