Sweet Home Alabama

I was at Sun's Menlo Park headquarters last week for a Globalization Leadership Meeting, and now I'm working from my parents' house in my hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. My parents have a phone line of course and also an Internet connection, and that plus my laptop is all I need to set up my virtual office in their dining room.

It's been a long time since I spent time here in Alabama and I had forgotten how gracious and kind Southerners are. Yesterday I was talking to one of my parents' neighbors and in the middle of our conversation his cell phone rang. It was his wife and he told her, "I was just chatting with Marie's daughter from China. She's beautiful."

God it's good to be back home.

I never thought that I'd have the chance to mention to someone that one of my favorite bands of all time
is Lynyrd Skynyrd, and that following Free Bird, I like "Sweet Home Alabama" the best. Then again, in retrospect, it is inevitable that I find opportunities to say almost anything. I guess it's a function of how much one talks...

I got to make for first official visit to your home state a few weeks ago. I say "official" since I've driven through Mobile, but that's about it. We have a great Sun Ray install at the UAB Medical Center. I found the people extremely warm and hospitable. Looking forward to going back.
