I know I shouldn't say it, but this is shaping up to be a quiet week.

I only had one call. Its purpose was to rectify a mistake from the previous night when a hospital mistakenly requested another of our riders to deliver a patient's drugs to a place called Greenhill Lodge in Frome. The real destination should have been Greenhill House in Cheddar, which is just 400 metres away from my house!

I left home at a very civilised 8:00pm. The route to Frome is excellent as it takes me up one of my favourite biking roads through Cheddar Gorge, which is the largest limestone gorge in the UK. The road is 3 miles of twisting turning biker heaven. As it is only 1/2 mile from my house I can do it any time, but to ride the Gorge with a purpose is always a pleasure. There are a couple of great videos that show you the road through the Gorge: A Fiat Coupe driving down the Gorge and a a BMW R1100GS bike ridden up the Gorge by my friend Tim Chambers. The unedited footage in the latter should give you an idea of why I love the road so much.

I got home at 9:30pm and was able to catch the last 30 minutes of my team's weekly staff conference call. I am grateful to have a boss and a team that are understanding of my need to miss the occasional meeting when I am on blood bike duty.

Time on the road: 1h30m, Mileage: 54, NHS money saved: £50 (US$94)
